GTS Blackouts..

I would do a search but we all no why that cant be.

Anyway, whats the difference with all the part#'s for the rear and front blackouts? I mean they got differnent numbers form 82-92 camaros. Arent the headlights and taillights the same? I know they look different but thier configuration should be the same..

Reason Im asking is because I got me some rear blackouts and the part number is GT030 but Ive seen some on Ebay with a diffenent number...

for those of you with rear blackouts, arent they suppose to cover the top part of the taillights? you know with a lip or something?

The way the go on leaves an area for water to get in behind it...

I got the GTS Trailblazer covers for mine. Gets the look of blackouts without worrying about getting pulled over because you can still see the lights through the slots. I will get some pics up as soon as the temperature gets above zero.

As far as I know, there are 2 diffrent styles of lights, grid and the old ones. But I thought they were the same shape and could be interchanged readily, so there should only be 1 choice for hte blackouts. Unless the other set on ebay is for the one that goes all hte way across and covers the plates.

Nah, i don't like 'em. I think they look cheap.

I know a lot of people like'em, but it's not my thing.

Next will be chrome fender flares and dice valve stems.

Those look just like the ones I put on my car. It looked 10X better from the back with them, it cleaned up/smoothed out the lines quite a bit. But I didn't have the "Grid" tailights either. If I did, I probably wouldnt' have got the blackouts. Hmm thinking about doing a before/after pic...

did you ever have a problem with them coming off?

The reason Im getting them is Im going for the all black and white look on the outside......those and tinting the windows the car will look dark/tight./sleek...............IMHO...

If it dont then I can alway sell em....or take em off or put em on...give the car a different look every now and then...

I like 'em on black. Although I'd keep 'em off if my car was black.

The all black and white idea is cool, except I've always been a sucker for a stock white Roc. So once again, I'm against them.

I'm a purist. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful:sillylol:

Mine held for a year and a half, but since the cars sold thats all I know now. They stayed on through many road trips, passes down the track, and hitting the limiter @ 110 plenty of times.

Have trouble keeping them on?

Since they are just held on by velcrow, and that would make them easy to steal. So i just screwed them to my taillights. The lip at the top is where I screwed them on to the taillight.

Neither do mine. I took a black flat head screw and put one on the point which is on the side of the car and the other near the wrapped around area by the license plate lites. Drill your hole very carefully and SLOW so as not to crack. Velcro is too easy for the theives to remove. Also take some finger polish remover and get the GTS logos off. Looks much cleaner that way.

yeah, the velcro makes them VEERRRRYYYY easy to steal, i found this out the hard way . I was reluctant to drill in holes when i had my first pair, but once i get a new set the holes are gonna have to be made. oh well

PLEASE for the love of 3rd gens....TAKE OFF THE STICKERS! The blackouts are OK if thats what you want, but the white GTS stickers screw up the whole blacked out look.

All you need is some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and they come right off.

I personally like the look of the covers but I don't want to risk getting pulled over just to look good.

i found that the gts are the best made when all is considered. i do like the avs center section though as when it's a solid piece all across it looks really different.

those where the first things i bought when i first got my car way back when.....i soon grew out of it though and i prefer the new light look. if i couldn't get my lights to polish up though i would definately want to cover them.

the other thing i didn't like is how they rub the paint....no matter how hard you try eventually they will scratch. so they now collect dust along with blackouts for all the other vehicles i've ever owned.

it was a phase i had to get over.

i like the look of the blackouts, they look good on just about any car, If you decide to get them peel off the little white GTS logos, they look cheesy.

Yes that's me. I live in Markham but use to live in Homewood. I am always at that Speedway or Delta Sonic depending on who's gas is cheaper. PM me and we can run in the summer time. Come on over to the N.W. Indiana/So Chicago board for more info on our local gathering coming up soon, Memorial Day weekend. We meet at Blue Top in Highland on Fridays and our parts man Denny(LFN AT U) has a big thirdgen farm in Crete. Thousands of Camaro/Firebird parts. Pmail me.

Sorry to jump off topic everyone.

does anybody know the difference between the two styles of smoke that jeg's sells? there is a set for the general 82-92 camaro and then there is a set for 85-92 iroc/z28. other than the grid look i didnt think there was a difference between they 2 styles of taillights.

yeah, stuff does get behind them
when my dad got our '87... the blackouts were clogged with leaves and crap..

Unless a thief is specifically looking for blackouts, they won't take them

hell i didn't even know how to get them off until my dad 'brute forced' them :P

Hehe...once they came off, i was surprised it was velcro...

they look real nice

My blackouts on my 86-92 had the lip at the top and that was where they locked at. I told them over the phone that i was NOT going to drill my taillights for the covers. I had the covers that would let you slide the center cover over the liscencse plate on and off. worked great, loved them.
