first project almost done! :p

ok my first project wasnt too big but a personal cool touch i came up with! i bought a hatch cover cuz my bird didnt come with one, thats why theres a star blanket in my trunk...in the photos of my car But when i recieved the hatch cover i got an idea of putting the bird logo on the cover in sliver...same as my car. I just applied the decal today and have to apply one more coat of sealant...so it wont come off too much. i will post pics once cardomain lets me upload them (probably tomorrow am)...i will also post pics of it installed in my car...i should be doing that next week! :lala:

Yeah, there needs to be a couple of slots in the plastic trim on the underside of the hatch. I don't suppose you can get the trim off the donor car from which you got the hatch cover, or one like it? Sure beats hacking up your original. Or, if you could find another car with the hatch cover, maybe you could make a template off that car to make it easier to cut the required slots in your trim piece. I'd post a pic of mine, but I currently lack the technology. Hope this helps...

Sure, whats his seller name, or if he is selling one right now the link to it would be cool What is the decal make of? Would it work on glass?

Did you get your hatch cover finished? My car came stock with a hatch cover, and I have a pic of where it attaches to the hatch if you want.

his seller name is on there and he describes the decal, its vinyal and can go on the rear window...i just used it in a unique way

also if you can take a photo of where your hatch cover attaches i'd love it, cuz i kinda got a temp thing i'm gonna try but i'm not sure it will work...i might have to end up cutting the plastic dont know though.

Here ya go, sorry it took so long to get the pic, but I just got home from work :P Thanks for the link, too

On the handle part of the hatch cover, there should be 2 little things sticking out, that kinda look like nails that aren't in all the way, if you know what I mean. Those 2 things should slide into the holes on this piece (slide from the bottom up). This is the plastic piece that goes on the bottom of the hatch. Mine is not on the car at the moment :P, but heres the pics I just took of it. It might be easier to get another plastic piece (shouldnt cost more than 10-20 dollars from the junk yard, or maybe from a car someone is parting out. If you do get one, you can just get some interior paint that matches your interior color, and paint the piece, since it doesnt really show all that much, and its not really a high wear item. Hope this helps

Oops, might help if I attach the pic

I forgot to mention, there is a metal piece behind these holes, which is what the 2 rivets in the picture hold. It should be fine without the metal piece if you do cut yours though, the plastic should be plenty strong enough since the cover doesn't really pull very hard on it. At least mine doesn't, but its also 20 years old :P

I jsut noticed something else.... I dunno if I should say anything though....... I think, you may have put the bird on the wrong side of the cover....... the handle should face down then installed in the car.... It might work the other way, though... might just be the picture, too... hehe don't kill the messenger!

I think you're right ward....and if i remember correctly...you cant mount it upside down like she has it.......I think the holes on the sides wont line up........but the cover should fold out from the top and not the bottom.........also........the bird seems a bit off center too.

In Ward's pic, notice the two rivets located on the outside of the holes....those are used to attach a sheetmetal retainer to the backside of the plastic panel. It's purpose is to prevent the hooks of the hatch cover from 'pulling through' the plastic. Mebbe he can post a pic of the backside to show the metal part.
It would be a lot easier to find a plastic piece from another car originally equipped with the cover to install instead of cutting up a stock one, IMO.

When I fitted a blind to my RS, I removed the plastic quarter panel side trims on both sides, where the plastic end bits for the blind bolt on, and what did I find? There are marks in the plastic on the underside where the cutouts should be. All you have to do is to push them out! Saves a bunch of time I can tell you!
Then all that is needed is a couple of brackets made up.

Good luck.
Andy.

ok i removed the decal and contact spray that i sprayed on top of the decal...because it made the decal curl together when it got hot. so now i'm wondering what to do...get a new decal and put it on the rear window (my mom likes that idea) or not have a decal at all cuz i dont think i can keep the decal on the cover...i could get someone to airbursh the bird on the cover but thats a lot of money so what do you all think? should i get this decal below on my rear window?

let me know what you all think, thanks.
