Help! polishing chrome

Hey guys, just got a set of cragar SS wheels off a friend. I was wondering, how can i get surface rust off of them? i think they're real chrome, all i know is they have some rust. Will the polishing technique for aluminum wheels work well? how can i get them shining like new?

sos pads with water...then take some chrome polish or wd40 or something and make em shiny
