help with polishing runners

Hello,

I did just polished my plenum the results was great, I used:
180
240
320
400
Buffing with 2 vax compounds

Now I started doing the same to the runners, but I have problem with buffing, i get black marks all over the runners. It looks like crap, dont know what I do wrong, any ideas?? are the runners made of aluminium?

Are your buffing wheels black? That's called oxidation from the aluminum. Also, if you are getting a 'rubber' type of material on the runners(yes are made of aluminum), this usually signifies that too much compound is being used.

Take your wheels and toss them in the washer by themselves to give them a good washing. This will obviously clean them and you can re-apply the compound sparingly and you will start with a clean buff.

Also make sure that you are using one buffing wheel per compound....don't use one wheel for all of the compounds.
