How to get a satin finish on aluminum?

I've been trying to polish my HMS strut mounts, but its just not turning out like I thought it would. I've got one of them looking decent for the amount of time I've spent on it, but I have changed my mind and want to get a satin finish instead of mirror-type polished look. How is this accomplised? Thanks!
