Well it usd to be painted black bur I stripped all the paint.
Can it be polished or powder coated? how bout glass beaded? Something better than the nasty old look...

Yes, It can be polished. You can barely see the IAC though, but I've seen people polish TBs and TB plates.

 

It could be polished, I don't see the TPI plate being much fun to polish though 85to89sportcoupe or something like that does polishing on here.

 

Yup, u sure can polish the throttle body and IAC..

But yeah, it's gonna be tough (but doable) to polish the plate...

I love the look of the plate painted black, I need to get around to doin that..

Yep its easy to polish the tb and tb gun. Heres how I do the tb plates. I'm a CNC programmer so I've got a connection at college I just sand down the stupid Tuned Port Injection lettering and make a custom program and enscribe something into it. IE just like my avatar pic. After that polishing is a quicky

IMO its a waste of time to polish the stock TB, just got out, get a bigger TB polish it, and give yerself some more power.

 

not one peice of sandpaper touched my throttle body. 3M perfect it III and blue magic polish.

check out my cardomain, didnt have the 3.27 gears or LT1 cam with that 13.9 either. had it to the track this spring and itll be back in the 13s soon. new tires, gears and that cam took some getting used to for launching, almost running 98mph now. once i get my AFPR itll pick up some power due to the Lt1 cam leaning me out a tad.

Sorry to bump this really old topic but instead of making a new topic I thought I'd put it here, I have stripped my cover plate of it's paint and sanded it but the raised lettering is giving me problems. How exactly do I do that area without just sanding down the letters? I want the Tuned Port Injection to remain.

Sand papering doesn't work, would some kind of steel wool work?

 

you might look at buying sanding wheels and disks, then use a soft polishing wheel.

polishing wheel is a must have.... using the polisher on a drill isnt fun... but a dremel with the right attatchments are very usefull in small areas.

 

Got a dremel recently purchased, but what tool do I need to get polishing between the letters? I used a brush to get rid of the paint remains after I stripped it with paint remover. The metal brush I also got just turns the aluminium dark.

Don't need a polishing wheel, got my drill in a vice and it has adjustable speeds, that way I have a fine and dandy polishing wheel for zero bucks.

I tried buffing last night, with sisal and then flap buffs.
Didn't produce a very good result but I think that might be because I hadn't sanded well enough yet and because I don't got my eastwood products yet, only some generic cheapo metal polish bars.

Can one clean the compounds from the wheels after using them?

what did you sand up to? and did you use a drill motor and polishing wheel? i think you can get a better out come. that is unless your happy with what you have produced.

 

you know for $15 you can buy an anodized plate right? im not sure what site its on, but just look at TPI parts on Hawks site. they look good

 

It's definitly not finished, it's just to show what I got so far.
I only used some generic polishing paste on that which I got from my father. Hence I believe the ****ty results. Still waiting for my eastwood products(emery, tripoli, white rouge + wheels)

Also only had 400grain paper and sanded with that alone, got 180 and 320 now as well so I am going to sand more still. I had no idea what people meant when they talked about sanding "wheels" but I do know. I thought sanding discs and wondered how that would ever work. Thats language barriers for you. Need to get some of those, what kind of wheels should I get? there are alot of wheels out there, some made of nylon.

I am not sure if sandblasting the aluminum is the best way to go but it'd get every nook and cranny.

Well sure I could buy one but Where's the fun in that? And I wouldn't learn anything that way.

by disks, i was refering to a light grit cut of wheel for finish cuting. little to no pressure when using these will cut smooth the area to tight for the normal "porting" style sanding rolls. Just be sure to keep the wheel constanly moving or the surface will be irregular.

 

I am pretty happy with what I got after sanding and polishing this. Can't do anything now until I get my polishing products. Next step will be emery+sisal wheel. Then tripoli and then white rouge using flap buffs.

 

sand blasting will leave it rather rough when your done still, glass beading it would be a much better way to go. and from my experience. 400 is good enough, but personally i like the satin finish so mostly ive sanded up to 1000, 1500. that will give it a darker shine.

 

Polish or powder coat it. I can do either or for you.

 

yes, you got me on that one! do you have a blast cabinet? ive got a bead blasting cabinet that makes it real nice and easy to strip the paint, as long as the part is small enough...
