You don't need to remove the needles. You just slide the needle through the center hole and it will just lie flat once you get it centered.

You could do it while the cluster is in the car, but I did it while it was out. It makes it easier to line the faces up.

theres a little button like thing on the back of the cluster where the cable goes into the cluster for the speedo you need to depress to disengage the cable from it and then it should just come out. Im not sure on this but I beleive the dashpad may have to come off to get behind the cluster enough to get to that button like thing.

i did the same thing, i broke the needle off in their, and had to get a different speedometer from the junk yard. there are two things you can do. one is to take off the two little black screws on the speedometer face, then the face just comes off, or you have to reach around behind the white plastic thing, and find the speedo cable right behind the speedo, and it just has like a little clip thing.

I broke my speedo needle the first time tried to remove the needles. Had to buy a new cluster.

OK, so you got the whole cluster out of the car right, ...-or did you pull each guage out of the white cluster housing with it still in the car? The seperate guages can be pulled out of the white cluster while it's still in the car, but the speedo's a bit trickier. I think it's much easier to just pull the whole cluster and never even remove the guages from the white cluster housing. There are two screws that are down inside the white cluster housing kinda where the bulbs for the warning lights are...gotta get those. After that, and the "obvious" screws, the only tricky part is the speedo cable. Just remove the panel that's just above your shins when your driving. (fuses....scanner port....etc.) Once that's out, contort yourself so that you're looking UP at the steering column. You should see the speed cable going into the back of the speedo/white cluster housing. I use a LONG flathead screwdrive to get it off. It's pretty easy, once you know what you're doing. I hope this helps.

i pulled each set individualy cause it didnt look as if the whole white cluster was coming out. I still dont see how that white thing can come out... i took out all the screws.. only thing left in the dam thing is teh speedo itself.. everything else is on the bench. Im gunna give it one more try and see if i can get at that speedo cable.. at least if i can get the cluster out ill be happy... ok does anyone know that thin part that im talking about?? now does it go into the speedo or out of the speedo?

if you are talking about the little thing that sticks out of the speedo and in the back of the needle, that is supposed to go with the needle.

thats basicly what i did.... only it broke... I saw that a lot of people went with the fork method so i started to push evenly on each side and slowly pull off... then i heard a crack and was like ohh chit thats not good. then i pulled it again and it popped out and for like 2 sec i thought it was good to go but i looked at it and i saw that it was broke. A friend of mine was guiding me how to do this over the phone.. i should of just slotted the dam overlay and slid it overtop. Thats what i plan on doing for the rest of them cause id ont want to risk it... anyone else have any input on this please chime in! Im at work right now and i cant get my mind off it... i need it to fix this by tonight or im f*cked for tommorrow.. please help

if you can get the broken piece out of the speedo, you can just get a new needle, but if you can't get it, you will probably have to get a new speedo from a junkyard or something. that's what i did.

Its the speedo cable thats holding your cluster in. You need to unplug it from the back of the speedo, then the cluster will drop out. Its hard to get at with your fingers so you can either #1 use a very long needle nose pliars, or #2 drop the steering column and use your fingers. To unplug the cable you need to hit the release on the clip. If you cant see how the clip unhooks, use a flashlight, or if you can get your hands behind the cluster feel for it. Hard to explain how to release it.

Dont feel bad about going through this. It happened to me the first time I pulled a pre 90 cluster, and I'm sure it happens to alot of people. Just remember that the worst thing you can do when something isn't comming off or working right is get mad and break stuff. Just take a break (no pun intended) and try again later.
