Mirror polish, how can I do it?

Ok, I bought a vette plenum extention, and have been working on it for the last week.

I started with, Sandpaper:

120
320 wet
400 wet

From there, I bought a 2300 RPM craftsman electric drill, and the following:

Hard buff: Emery
Soft ventilated buff: Tripoli (2x over)
Soft canton buff: White Rouge

I am working on the White Rouge right now, but it seems to do a few things wrong. One, it seems to buff up the polish a little bit, making it somewhat cloudy.

I also noticed it leaves black specks on my work, so I have to stop every so often, and wipe them off with my t-shirt. I also noticed when I quickly run the buffing wheel over the surface, it seems to help brighten things up ok, but it is still fairly cloudy.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I just keep working with the White Rogue on the soft buff I have? I have spent a bit more than a hour on this last step so far. Anybody have any tips for me to help me get rid of the cloudy finish?

Usually those black spots represent too much compound being used. Don't keep loading the wheel up with it, just keep buffing with it w/o using so much compound. You really can't do too much of the 400 wet and the emery compound. The more you do of those steps, the better it will look.

If you do a search, in just the appr/detail board, for 'polish' in the keyword field, and search for posts with 'joshp14' in the username field, you will find some threads that I have replied in which you will find the majority of your answers. You can also do that same search with 'MikeInAZ' as the username and you will find a lot of hints as well.

Hope this helps.
