5in spoiler is here....
And it sucks, the quality came out great but it doesnt fit worth the poop. after workin on it for 4-5 hours i gave up and took it off and put the stock spoiler back on.
few things i HAD to do was elonggate the holes on the decklid by alot becuz only 2 of the studs for the spoiler lined up all the others didnt. then i had to use the dremal to cut/sand some of the spoiler to get it to fit but one side still had a gap and i had to elonggate one hole and it was good there.
then the side pieces, the driver side i had to do alot of sandin/cuttin to get it to come close to fittin like stock but it still had a nice gap that wouldnt go away, then i had to sand off some of the piece that touches the spoiler piece on the deck lid. after fightin with that side and everthing was good and some what lined up i did the other side.
the passenger side sucked the most. none of it lined up with the rest, i know my deck lid sticks out about 1/4'' on the passenge side but when i was thinkin of if i did this or that it still was not goin to line up at all. and the passenger side had a little more angle to it then the rest of the spoiler. and also the same with sanding and cuttin/sanding was done to it and it didnt even sit right at all. after all that work i got fed up with it and took it off packaged it back up and put my stock piece back on and those went on in 20mins and everything fit the way it should have even with the elongated holes i had to do. im goin to call up Bruce at Hawks tomarrow and see what he can do for me, becuz im very very unhappy with this and would really really like to have one on my car since no one around here has one. well theres one around here but its the old ASCD one.
i just dont think it was worth the $250bucks for it and end up not fittin even after havin to mod it some. and after havin to mod it some one of the studs broke from the fiberglass on the passengerside side piece.
has anyone else run into this problem with theres?
by the way heres pics THe pics are here

I didn't even know there was a stock-like spoiler like that. Kinda 1st-early 2nd Gen looking.

Man... that looks aweful.
In all fairness though, I'm going to wait and see how it fits on a couple other cars before I make up my mind. I know from personal experience with these cars that the rear hatch area isn't the same on any 2 cars, and it takes a lot of work to get stuff to line up back there.
But... yours seems way off. The part that bugs me the most is how poorly the side piece sits against the 1/4 panel.

I spoke with Bruce about this yesterday..
He said that no two cars fit alike and that all will require some sort of modification to get a nice even fit. I just can not believe it is like that... Another Stunner from the General..

yea the side pieces i wasnt happy about becuz of those gaps and plus one of the studs broke free from the fiberglass on the passenger side.
and even if i align my hatch to near perfect there is alot of material that would need to be sanded off to make things to fit nicely becuz before i sanded the part on the deck lid and i tryed closing the hatch there was alot of rubbing.
and with how the studs are made into the spoiler u have to shave off some of the fiberglass around them to get the side pieces to close those gaps up.
and i know 2 cars are not the same but also 2 spoilers are not the same.
like in the issue with MDformula350 with his RA1 hood where he had problems with the hood latch and everthing. maybe my spoiler was a bad mold and i got screwed out of $250.
i just hope i can get ahold of Bruce becuz the phone number for Hawks when i called said it was not in service.

I drove up to Bruces' place a few weeks ago and saw the 5" spoiler on that white car with the Firehawk wheels and SS spoiler, I forget the owner's name, but anyway...
It looked like a pretty good fit on that car, except for the passenger's side piece. It was lined up and everything, but it looked like it was a little crooked or something
Either way, I'll be buying one in the next year or so. Hopefully they will have a better mold by then.

Sorry to hear that the spoiler didn't fit , but thanks.... I got one a few weeks ago but didn't put it on yet. I was going to paint it first. Guess i am going to have to see if it fits first cause i just spent $99.00 for a quart of paint (yes, $99.00 for a quart, auto paint is a rip off anymore i guess) and i would i went ballistic if i would have painted it then had to sand and shave the thing to get it to fit and then have to repaint it again. But if you ask me for $250 the spoiler should fit almost to perfection. Where i work at, if we sold something like that,it would be called a blemish or a reject and sold for next to nothing. I hope mine fits okay..... Good luck Tim

thats why i test fitted mine first becuz if it fit fine i was goin o just spray paint it for now till i get my car repainted again but i think gettin the car repainted will wait for long becuz i want this spoiler on but i wish it fit better.
that and when i was puttin the deck piece on only 2 of the i think 5 or 6 studs it has only 2 of the studs lined up with the holes, that why i had to elongate holes on the deck lid.

Yeah, I have Hawk's 5"spoiler as well. I do agree that it is very tediuos and time consuming to mount it. I actually had to drill 2 more holes in my decklid for the spoiler studs. Also, the passenger side spoiler went on relatively easy and the driver's side, is still a PITA. I had to open up the factory holes alot to clear the actual fiberglass hump that surrounds the base of the stud (on the driver's side). Also, I also had to trim the bottom portion (the part which comes in contact with the top-rear of the quarter panel) of the driver's side spoiler to sit more or less flush and so that it would line up with the center section/spoiler. I am still not finished because it seems as if there is too much stress on that spoiler when I tighten it down.
When I get a chance I will post pics.
Also, I am having difficulties covering up the factory spoiler mount holes on the top of the quarter on both sides. I had to drill seperate ones for those studs.

Now when you talk about the fitment issues...yes there seems to be some problems up there. But you are talking about a decklid. Have any of you ever seen a factory decklid line up perfect with the quarters...I never ever have! From the factory the cars had overbites and 90% were crooked. Now add in the aged urethane and general slipping that occurs in body panels over time and you have a mess to deal with. The only way I got my decklid remotely straight was to take it completely off and realign it. And it was way off. The factory metal braces that are on the edge and slight underside of the decklid....anyway I had to totally redrill the holes cause the factory was so off! Then it was not even right to left and I had to realign it till it was right....
So you are puting this spoiler on a part that is misaligned form the get go. No two 3rd gens are the same, and you expect it to fit perfect, its not! The misalignment in your pics to the side of the passengerside...I would be willing to bet that 99% of it is from the decklid being off. You even stated yours was crooked.
But you say you put your old spoiler back on and it lined up. Well its also only half the height, so the misalighnment is not going to show up so much.
I think you needed to fix your decklid first! I would loosen it up and see if the spoiler alignment can be fixed by adjusting it. There is a TON of alignment in those decks. I have messed with 6 of those things and they are all very adjustable...who know what position the decklid on the car Bruce molded on was on.
Then fit the spoiler. That is the only way to be sure it is not your car that is causing the problems. Then yes there will be work to get it to fit just right...the similar 2nd gen TA spoilers rarely fit right either, since so many angles had to line up and the decklid adjustment had to be right on. The holes needing to be elongated is common. Holes are going to be off on any aftermarket spoiler. Heck the GM ones might even be off year to year, you never know.
Final fitting around the quarters isn't easy, but it looks like there is enough material there to sand to get the gaps perfect. Not everyone is proficient at bodywork and fiberglass work, but all it really takes is a little patience. If you don't have the patience or skills, a good bodyman could probably do it for you in an hour or so.
I have put this spoiler on my car and I am very pleased with it. It did take some time and patience to get it to fit perfect, but I think the result was well worth it. As others have said, no fiberglass part will fit perfectly, and no two cars will be the same. Any of you should know that any worthwhile modification to your car takes time, and it is rarely easy. I'm sure all the bugs will get worked out. Just think, a few months ago you couldn't get these spoilers anywhere. These were produced for us, the least we can do is show a little patience and be willing to put forth a little more effort.

Don't feel bad Tim i tried to put mine on today and it was just as bad as yours and my hatch is darn near perfect if not perfect. I didn't feel like fooling with it all day so i took it off for now. Gonna have to play with it sometimes when i am in the mood. Don't get me wrong, Bruce said we could send it back if we didn't like it and since he stands behind his stuff like that, I would definatly order off of Hawks again. But the truth is i don't want to send it back , i think it is one of the best looking spoilers out there, just wish it would fit a little easier.
