dealing with rust
well, the inevitable finally occured
on my previoulsy rust free 1991 RS, some rust started showing up on the doors (thanx to NJ's harsh winter)
i'm going to be painting the car again, what would be the best way to deal with this?

I have very little experience in this area, especially on a car. I have rust issues myself. I do know that you will want to get rid of the rust completly by grinding it down to bare metal and then putting some kind of coating over the area, otherwise it could come back and bubble through your new paint.

Your best bet would be to sand blast the area to get down into the rust pits and get rid of all of the rust. What I have done in the past is after blasting it i put por 15 on it and then I sanded quite a bit of the por 15 off of the good metal and left in the pits just incase I missed some. I didn't want a large build up of por 15 under the primer. However, If you are going to put body filler over the area then just make sure that you rough up the por 15 well before applying the filler. So far I have had very good luck doing this.
Good luck
