These are pics are chopped up pretty bad... just want to get a few opinions.



My FTP server got killed by this power outage... so I'm testing a new host right now.. image may not be displayed.

 

To big, what are they 20"?? Not the style for a 3rd Gen, my opinion.

 

I tried to make them 17"... it's hard to scale them when eyeballing it with photoshop... they look more like 18s".

 

Too big and "gangsta" for my tastes.

 

Thanx for the opinions guys.... although I have to say I wholeheartedly disagree. 15"ers don't cut it anymore... and 16" IROC wheels are weak.

 

So go with 17''s as a upgrade.

 

I love them. They are not your typical 5 spokes that you see on everyone else car. They look real nice.

 

Wow... I'm sorry... but those are nasty wheels... face mounted (0 offset) wheels are horrible.

I guess no one here is into the streetrod look.... ever picked up a magazine? Billet wheels are the way to go.

 

Guess you guys don't like Graboid's ride either... I think it looks great.




I would go 17"s over 18"s... but still IMO his car looks great.

 

Not enough sidewall on those wheels... needs more rubber IMO. Cut them down from what looks like 18-20" down to about 16" or so and it'd prolly look ok. I'm not hot on chrome on these cars though.

 

That is polished aluminum... and yeah I agree they are a little on the big side.

Those rims look sweet! They really suit the car, but yeah I would have to say 17's and not 18's. Add a clear side marker light and it would really set the car off nice.

I think they look damn good too. In that particular photoshop image, the rims look to be about the same size as my 16's. I don't think they look like 18-20" rims at all.

 

they look a little bit big. Me personally i like a small wheel with a lot of rubber. But hey man its your car, your the one who has to drive it so if you like it than go for it!! its your ride not someone elses

 

16" Irocs are weak?

Very few Camaros can pull that streetrod/billet wheel look off just right. Graboid is one of those that can. I don't like the look because unless the car sits just right, and isn't too cluttered, it looks crappy. I like more rubber myself. Mr Iroc-Z who has those 18" Irocs....VERY sharp lookin' car.

 

Cant see the pic, but I'm guessing they are billet and deep dish. I say yes, and I say go with the 18's. I went with 18" Boyds and I dont regret it one bit. In fact, with my new suspension setup I have even less clearance/rubbing issues than I did with Eibach Sportline springs and ROH ZS 17's.

 

the above pic is a great look to achieve.

check out budnik wheels as they have quite a few nice alternatives to your style. i like the arrows myself which are relatively new.

i like the boyd hotrods but do a search and you'll find some close up pictures of the actuall rim. their is a star shape that takes up the center wheel which can distort it if your looking for a clean look they aren't exactly the way to go. however, if your willing to take the chance i know a few people over at boyd that are willing to change the program and make the hotrod a more clean design like the above photoshoped picture.

1st off, IROC rims kick a$$, alot of it.

2nd, those rims look pretty good, but I wouldn't go too big, 18's are too much.

 

Johnny those rims are slick. I agree the street rod look is the most menacing and turns every head. When I saw the Swiss man's ride I thought " now there is an original concept".

Funny, it was just last night that I made my choice between the Boyd-Coddington Hotrods or a type of Centreline. I went with the Centerlines because of a minor detail in them that really appeals to me. Good thing to, we can't have to IROC's in London with the same rims.

do the ends flare out or is that just an illusion with the light? a nice dished wheel like those would be nice unless they flare to a facemount with no lip.

 

Thanx for all of the comments guys.... I can see everyone's points about it being a tough look to pull, but I say go big or go home. Two of my favourite cars, Kandied and CrazyHawaian are saying do it... so it can't be that bad.

The ends do NOT flare out.... they are Boyd Coddington Magneatos...

I'm going with 17X8 fronts and 17X10 rears... but I'm not sure for backspacing in the rear.

 

There will be no problem getting the stance right. I have custom 4 corner weight jacks. I can lay it down on the ground or raise it to a foot of clearance underneath just by a few cranks on the screws.

 

talk to Bob Deatherage over at boyd. when i was considering boyd he was the only one close to understanding what i planned to do which is similar to your own idea. also, if there is something you don't like about the wheel your choosing let him know as they can alter the wheels to your liking to certain degrees.

I lke the look. There is a guy here local that has those *I think* or something very similar. And his are 20's I believe and don't even look like it, look more like 18's. But they fill the wheel well nicely. But then he isn't lowered either I don't think. If I find a pic, I'll post it.

what ever you do i say stick with the same size wheels front to back.

the 17/18 is alright for real hot rod's but i don't think it looks particularly well on the thirdgens. here is a good example between 17/18 and a 18/18 rolling setup.

 

18/18 or at least 17/17 fits the lines much better where as 17/18 looks as if your running a spare, but that's just me.

 

Well, the 17/18 combo looks, ummmm how should I say. . . .fugly, lol. It does look like a spare. To me the only way something like that looks good is on a 3rd gen w/out GFX and it's the tire size that's different, not the wheels.

 

i'm not trying to pick anyones car apart but just showing the best example possible of why i don't personally like the 17/18 combo on thirdgens.

hotrods and even c5 vettes are designed so that you won't notice such a thing; thirdgens aren't. even though it's only 1" it stands out alot to myself.

 

Well, this is an old pic and doesn't have his new wheels. Last show I saw this car at, it had 5 spoke 20's.

 

what cowl hood did you photoshop on there?

 

get a picture of the 5 spoke wheels as those are a little different. decent looking car though. obviously alot of work has gone into it.

that's quite a lift though.

 

I like the "gangsta" rims, they look badass and i saw go for it....

17's aren't cutting it for me anymore, I WISH i had gotten 18 inch rims......

Actually, it's not. That is a photoshopped picture of my old camaro. The rims were changed and the graphics on the side were removed. That picture was taken in 1992. It's sitting in the driveway of the house my mom still lives in today.

That hood isn't photoshopped- it was a bolt-on style 2" cowl hood from Unlimited Products.

By the way, JohnyIROC, I like the wheels you chopped on there. The 15" Ronal R9 look-a-likes I had on the car were cool at the time, but outdated by today's standards.

Yeah.. I should have put a better disclaimer on there saying that this was not my car. BTW, I liked your old ride... looked alot like my old ride... had a nice stance... and I had double limo and the same paint. looks like you had some serious tint on there as well.

 

I agree 100%... I'll be going 17 or 18 on all 4... at this point I'm thinking 17s... the boyd's I've chosen are a rolled "reverse" lip, so they look 1 size bigger than they actually are.

 

Hmmm, i dunno. Maybe it is just me and a few others, but, I do not understand why someone would change the rims and EVEN consider 17's..? I had 17 inch billetspecialties on my car and the look was poor. AND i think18's is still not the right size to go. If i had to buy rims for a thirdgen now, i would buy 19's at least, but i think 20's would be the look to beat. And if i can sell my rims during the winter, then i will upgrade to 20 inch boyd's. Think about it, folks.

 

Billet/polished 18's through 20's look good on 3rd gens. They fill that large wheel well nicely. But the problem is, the people that usually put those on don't drop the car and it's usually wire wheels : puke:. And the tires are better suited for a truck or SUV and the profile is way too big. Flush mounts don't look as good as some with a lip, just looks odd. But depends on style of the wheel also.

Anything over 20's just isn't right. If you want a 4x4 sell the f-body and buy a truck. A guy around here has 22" wires with fat tires on a Camaro and it sits so damn high, it looks like poo.

 

have to agree after having the 18's i like them the best.

You guys almost had me talked into the 18s....

I did one more photoshop so I could really get a good idea what it's going to look like. I scaled them exactly to the size of a 17" rim and put in the backspacing on the rears.... This is exactly the look I was hoping to achieve and I will be ordering ASAP.
