Funky carpet under seat- rust & green stuff
Okay; so I've got a water leak... for 4 years....
Tried to remove the seat yesterday and it decided to rust to the floor. I got the seat out, but there's rust stains under there, and what looks like mold? The carpet went from gray to greenish.
I'm glad it's under the seat; not very noticeable unless you're getting in, but: Any tips/tricks for cleaning this carpet up? I put the carpet in back in 2000... I shoulda fixed the leak first I guess, but it wasn't that bad back then. Or do I just hit it with a regular automotive carpet cleaner and hope for the best?
I'm just so glad the car doesn't smell moldy or mildewy... that would've sucked. That's why I think the carpet is still save-able...

hmm if i were u and you plan on keeping the car for a long time, id take the carpet out and check the floorboard for rust. even if its not rusted yet thats the only thing that can happen now even if u clean the top layer of carpet. probably replace the carpet while its out, or take one of those steam cleaner things u can rent and use it on the carpet while its out of the car then let it sit in the sun to dry out completely. all that mold probably isnt good to be breathing in either. but 4 years is a long time, it may be too late for the floorboard.

I know for sure there's a hole in there... I punched one through a few months ago with my floorjack. (Duh) Since the seat's out, I'm going to try to peel back the carpet and weld that hole shut. We'll see what else I find. Thanks guys! I think my buddy has a little hand-held steam cleaner that he'd probably lend me.
