Lexan T-top question

While thinking of things to do to my car this summer, the T-tops came to mind. Aside from the typical scratches common on lexan tops, there is a pretty nasty scratch that looks like it was caused by a razor blade or something similar. I did a search and read about the polishing technique but it was unclear to me how much damage can be undone. Should I undertake the project of wetsanding from 320-2000 and buffing? Would this damage or warp the top if done properly? Or, would I be better off just going over it with a buffer and some quality compound and making it look as good as possible that way?
