Need Paint Help Plz

Whats up?

I have an 84 trans am t-top, so I was wondering where I should go to get a paint job? I'm going to take all the dents n dings out and primer it, so basically all I would need is someone to handle the painting. My budget is no more than $2000.00 but thats pushin it. I would rather pay less than 1200.00 but, at the same time i would want a quality lasting paint job. As far as color goes i probaly go with a original black but, i want to find a color that would bring the car out (i still dont know what color yet) Some people say Maaco or Earl Scheib arent that bad as long as you do the prep work or maybe a local body/paint shop?. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanxs

i'll sum this up for you as easily as possible without you having to search for all the info.

paint jobs fluctuate price by products used, the condition of the car, as well as painter. my best advice to you is to search out some repainted cars that you know of........your in CA. go to car shows and talk to people, get in with local clubs in your area. there you will find plenty of people with more experience then yourself who will more then likely take you under their wing and help you out. the fact your willing to stay with the same color that is on the car will also save you alot of money and work in the end.

a good paint job isn't cheap but it doesn't have to be expensive, however like most things in life it has to do with who you know and how hard your willing to work. cutting out the middle man and doing alot of the labor needed to prep as much as possible will save you a fortune. just disassemble alone could save you anywhere from a few hundred to thousands.

do your homework and search, your asking broad questions on a broad topic so the types of answers your going to get will vary greatly. a good place to start is in your regional board and good luck. if you rush into this you may get lucky and have everything go your way or chances are you'll spend all your money and still not be happy.
