...just on the rear with stock 16x8 Z28 rims?

That might sound odd but for now my '91 has the stock z28 rims. As you know the fronts naturally sit flush and have a good stance and look. The rear's however, in my opinion sit in a little too much.

So...until I can get some 18's with 275's or something has anyone ever put a spacer on with the stock rear wheel? Just a small one maybe? I'd like the rear tires to sit slightly wider.

Any pics if so?

i'd recommend putting another pair of front rims on the rear of the car. that will give you the look you desire.

however a small (less than 1/4" thick) slip fit spacer can be used on the rear. some 16" wheel equipped thirdgens with drum brakes came factory with rear spacers.

this is what an 8" wide rim with front backspacing (~4.5") looks like on the rear of the car.


even with the thickest slip fit spacers you can get, you still won't get this look.

So what about switching fronts and rears since the fronts look like they could go in alittle and still look good?

i dont like spacers, i mean they may be fine but i dont feel safe using them no matter how many people swear by them .

I have a set of 4th gen 10 spokes (17in) on my 83 with 2in spacers. They work, but they do screw up the front end geometry by having the wheel centerline that far out. They don't necessarily screw up the handling, but the tire wear could be a PITA. There is a name for that, but I'm currently having a brain fart.

Spacers are a bad idea, ask any experienced tech, you'll probably get the same answer.

Your wheel/tire centerline is the same as a 17x9 wheel that fits WITHOUT the 2" adapters.

That is not the look I was talking about. I wanted a slight width increase while still using the stock 16x8's.

What I was reffering to is the distance between the steering knuckle and the centerline of the wheel, it is 2 plus inches out with the 17's, over the 15's. I believe Ackerman is the term I'm looking for.

Yes, they're spacers, however, because they are 2in spacers they have been machined with a second set of studs. It works just like an adaptor, only with the same bolt pattern. The reason this is done is to keep you from having 4 inch studs that has to go through the axle flange, drum, spacer, and alum wheel into the nut. I'll try to get you a link....
