Want to make an aluminum cover for air filter area...
A little while ago there was a thread about a chrome radiator cap that drifted into the subject of an aluminum cover for the air filter area. I'd like one of these for a number of reasons and I have a question or two. It doesn't look as though it'd be very hard to make at all, just need a sheet of aluminum and wire snips or a similar cutting tool. Am I wrong in believing it'd be this easy? I see people on here making aluminum interior panels and I would imagine this'd be much easier to make this. Here's a pic for reference:

Don't use a Dremel. That would take forever.
I don't see anything that could be a problem. Just make sure you get the hole for the hood latch in the right place so you don't have to do it twice.

Funny I was thinking about this yesterday staring at my car. One thing on that setup I am not sure I like or may cause an issue with my latch is that the front area there has quite a few elevation changes, and the plate in that photo is flat so it would sit up and not lay flush. I think you would see gaps around the edges that would look crappy. I might try and fab one up, do a drawing in CAD or SolidWorks first. I just want it to look smooth and not like a shiny afterthought that doesn't fit or seat well. Also I know there are small variations in the latches and shapes maybe from the Firebirds to the Camaros. It will have to remain a thought for now, I have other more pressing mods going on.
