Masking off decal have a few Q's?
K I have this scoop for my firebird ive been thinking about adding to the car, Im going to paint it red then I want to lay a screaming chicken decal over it but the only one I have is one I printed out of computer paper and cut and glued together, then I want to spray black over the rest leaving the bird in red, BUT is it going to stick because its paper? Should I try to put masking tape down in the shape the design which would be very hard to do, or wrap my design in masking tape or wax paper and continue from there? Any info would be greatly apriciated.

paper won;t work under paint. why not just buy the decal. there are quite a few places to get em. you could try to mask it out and paint it on with an air brush? i'm not an artist so i wouldn;t try it but maybe you have that talent.
oh here is a neat idea, print the bird on a clear overhead type material you know the type used for projecting stuff on a screen. then you could project it on the part with any light and tape it off and paint, you could pic the areas to paint and what colors ect. might work for ya. or like i said you could just buy the decal.

oh wait i just reread your post...... you want to use the bird paper thing as a template? for painting. does that describe what your asking better?
if so you could trace it with a pencil or something and then tape it. or maybe there is some type of sticky paper that would work. how about checking a sign shop and tell them what you want to do maybe the can cut it with their machine they have this paper that is sticky that goes over the vinyle decals to assist with applying them. that paper stuff may work. the part i don;t know is if it would hold back the paint well enough so it doesn;t bleed under the tape edge and look like crap.
