trans am spoiler

ok i have a 87 trans am, the spoiler on it originally is all cracked and warped and heavy. i bought one that lookes exactly like it but its made out of the rubbery stuff. waht i want to know is how do i attach the long skinny part that goes along the side of the glass? it has all the clips and all but i dont see how it will stay on. there was some kinda silicone/caulking stuff on the original one...is that what i should use? also the holes that u put the screws into on the spoiler have the bolts snapped off in them. i dont really want to drill them out and tap them...but if theres an easier way around that please tell. thanks for taking the time to read this.
