Firebird Centercaps...different types?

Hi

I just got some centercaps off of Ebay for my TA. They are the standard centercap that are black with the silver bird logo with a circle around it. These fit alot of the different wheels, but I have the "formula" style to be specific. Anyway, I was looking at them and they have plastic clips on the back of them. I was on Ebay looking up some other centercaps that were pretty much the same kind and noticed on those they have a metal clip inserted in the cap. My question is, are these metal clips necessary to keep the cap on the wheel or was this something GM did on later year centercaps?? Is there anywhere I can get these metal clips if I need them? I read a lot of people glueing them on...That is something I want to avoid. All help is appreciated.

You can do without the clips, but I would get the clips if you can. They just press into the cap and then onto the wheel. These hold the cap on MUCH MUCH better than just the little pastic tabs on the cap which will break in time. HTH!

(BTW, all of the 16" wheel caps interchange on firebirds and most all of the 15" as well...)
