T-tops and chassis reinforcment.

Everyone you ask will tell you that aftermarket t-tops are a bad idea and so are OE tops installed by an outside vendor. The main points are always structural integrity and leaking. It seems to me that if a top is installed into a structurally unsound roof, it's bound to leak. I understand this. But why does no one with some experience try to solve the problem instead of just saying it can't be done. The factory does it everyday so, IT IS POSSIBLE! I don't see any reason that the same principles applied at the factory cannot be applied at a later date to acheive the same results. Has anyone ever looked to see how the car is reinforced? If so, can someone please share that information with the rest of us? With budget constraints and everythiong else, for me, it's not as simple as going out and buying another car with tops. Thank you for any input.

I only posted this once but it showed up twice... Sorry

I think it might actually be cheaper to just buy another car with t-tops unless you have one of those cars that only has 12,000 miles on it.

I believe most people address the weak stucture problem of the 3rd gens by adding a pair of sub frame connectors to tie the front and rear frame rails together.

Later today when I get back from an inter view I will take a pic of the t-top suport brace.

But heres how it is done..

At the factory when they cute the roof for the t-tops it is actually a targa top at first then they weld in the middle beam. thats it..

I wouldn't do aftermarket t-tops, maybe a sunroof. I know there not as cool, but a lot cheaper to do.
