What exactlly are ghost flames?

Anyone correct me if i'm wrong but i think ghost flames are flames painted on your car. That are just a hint darker/lighter than the color of the rest of your car. Am i right guys ?

 

Typically they are shot in pearl on top of your base coat, then the whole car is shot in clear. That way you can only see them with certain angles of the sun striking the paint - they're very subtle. I've also seen/heard of guys doing it with a clear coat that has colored metallic flake in it. I used to have a couple of pix of a corvette that was done in purple with ghost flames, but I can't find them.

I painted ghost flames on my helmet and plan to also put them on my elco. The "ghost" part is the pearl additive for the clearcoat. The base coat is applied, then the clear, then the ghost flames. ***BEFORE YOU PAINT THE FLAMES, TEST ON SOMETHING ELSE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT ENOUGH, BUT NOT TOO MUCH PEARL!!
