Hotchkis STB, polish?????

Heres a question for everyone. I have the hotchkis STB and its powercoated red. What Ive been noticing though is that the powercoating is starting to wear off on my hood insulation leaving red on it, so it really looks annoying. I dont know if anyone has done this or not, but is there a way or sanding off the red, and polishing it to make it have a "chrome like" finish? I have a grinding wheel with a wire brush attached to it and i also have aircraft stripper so getting the powercoating off of it isnt a prob....i just dont want to put the wire brush to it and start to cause damage to it. Any thoughts on this? Personally i think the polished up one would look really nice. IMO though.

Yeah i thought other people would prolly chime in on this as well. When i ordered mine last year..they didnt have one i could order chrome so i was forced to go with the red. Im starting on it now using a bench grinder with a wire brush attachment. So far its taking the powercoating off with no problem....really time consuming but not to to bad. Once thats all done then im going to start sanding it with all the grit levels. 150, 320, 400, 600, 800, wet sand 1000 and then 2000. Then ill throw a coat of polish on it. Im hoping its going to come out looking good....well see though. Anyone have any other thoughts on this?? Is there any steps im missing at all or anyone have any tips?

supposedly it's different material. the powdercoated versions should polish up but they may take more maintenance. i had one on my car and loved it. i'd try it if the coating is wearing off, worse case recoat it later.
