They rank along the lines of Maaco...my dad told me when he was a kid (70's) they offered paint jobs for $29!!!...its not so much the work they do but the quality of the paint...places like that and Maaco use a very "sticky" paint so it cuts the prep time in half...there is very little prep work to be done when using paint like this...it will stick to dirt, mud, and even grease(i know someone that works for Maaco and we actually painted grease and the paint hardend)...it doesn't look all that bad for the money because they use a heavy clear coat...i'd stay away from it though

shoot. ive heard good things about them. from this posting board a while back.
I need a new paintjob, really bad, but there is no way im going to be able to afford some X thousand dollar paintjob.
Does anyone know of a good place who can paint cars for around a grand, and do a good job?

I had a car painted by Maaco, I think they are better than Earl. It depends where you go though all are different check around. Also do your own prep and it'll look better, they dont use a clear coat unless you pay big bucks, thats a 2 stage paint job and they dont like to do them as they cant send em out as fast. I would go for the cheapest paint job they have, maybe the sealer, though. They also have specials regularly so check dont pay their full retail. Do as much prep as you can and you'll get a decent paint job for the money. Do a search and you'll find more info as I've replied to these posts before.

TERRIBLE. i had my 85 sc painted there. they closed the doors when the paint was still wet and it ripped off my door seals. there was so much dirt stuck in the paint that if i could get it all out and put it on the floor it would take me a week to sweep it up. save your money and get a decent one. its not worth it. trust me.

There really is no difference between Macco, or Earl Shcibe, or One Day, or any other paint shop. I paint show cars and it's all relative. You can walk into any of the above shops and pay 10k for a paint job, and there would be no difference. All shops would do the same work. The thing is that the cheaper ones, do cheaper jobs. What I mean is, at my shop, we wouldn't waste our time doing a car for $500.00. Well, the most inexpensive paint job we've done was $8000.00. Macco and the others buy common colors in bulk just like McDonalds buys buns. They also don't spend alot of time on masking. So if you have any mouldings, plan on taking paint off.

The key to a paint job is the prep work. The better the prep work, the better it will look when painted. Do all the work you can (removing anything you don't want paint on) prior to leaving it with them. Our 83Z has a Maaco job and it still looks great 3 years later. We had my wife's Olds painted at Peaches and not only did it still look bad after it's 3rd trip back to them for fixes, but the paint faded before 2 years passed.
