Guys,

I am looking to paint my motor while it is out getting a head job(wish I was),cam, and etc. I want to paint it the same color as my car. Where do I get it, What kind is it, and how do I apply it? I painted my car so it should not be too difficult. it is code 34 (1991) dark bright teal. Thanks for the help.

Try to spray it thin, cause it WILL bake off. If it smokes alittle, or smells funny, don't worry, it'll go away.

Most paint is usually baked on anymore and not at a cold temp. The only place you might have a problem is around the exhaust ports,, but good exhaust takes the heat from there. You can use $.98 wal mart paint,, it won't flake off,,, as long as the motor is clean of all grease/etc. you won't have a problem unless overheating is a factor,, then the paint is the last problem toworry about. Just use a good primer and you won't have a problem. I used duplicolor on my friends 11:1 355 the runs HOT sitting,,, and yet to see a problem,, I used VHT high heat grey as the 'primer' and layed emerald green over it. so far,,so good.
If you think about it,, a motor is only supposed to get as hot and not much beyond the temp of the thermo,,, a black paint job out in the sun on a 98 degree day (egg cooking surface temp) is Much hotter yet doesn't flake or chip off.

Good Point about the sun. I was going to get some paint at work (wal*mart...funny you should say that)however the color does not match very good. I was not going to paint the heads because I have some Edelbrock performer aluminum heads on the way. Thanks for the info. All of your help on this board is greatly appreciated.

I think that wal*mart black is an actual color name. lol. It puts me through college, pays my car payment, and lets me have LOTS of money for trips to Summit Racing. God Bless Walmart indeed!

deadbird,

I just sent ya an e-mail. I was checking out your beater camaro. If you ever wreck it, I have a whole entire front clip for an 84 that I have been trying to sell for a long time. Bumper, bumper support, headlight bar, 2 fenders, and a hood all for $75. Apparently here in Ohio no one has an 84. I had these parts on mine until I got mine fixed. They served a great purpose but now are in the way. See ya

Yeah...it is fairly good. It needs painted of course. It just needs tlc. No dents or dings or rust. I take it back. The inner fenderwell of one of them has some surface rust from being outside here over the p[ast couple of months. I would go look at it but I am going to bed now. I need to be up for work in 3 hrs. I will e-mail you and let you know for sure sometime tomorrow. see ya Kev
