Can you believe this is 1100 bucks damage?

So, I'm driving home last Tuesday from a Pre-op physical, light rain had just started. I was starting to get over for some people merging from an entrance ramp onto the interstate... just as I check my left blind spot...

WHAAAAA-THUNK!!! A two foot section of a semi-truck tire cap smacks my hood and skips across the upper corner of the windshield! The sound startled me enough to twitch my arm to the left, sending the car skating out of control through the middle and left lane. I let off of the gas gently, correcting the skid and saved it just inches from the center concrete divider while riding out the rumble strips. A guy that had been in the hammer lane went by me in the middle lane and gave me a very excited thumbs up!!! Must have recognized the NASCAR skills...

I can't believe the body work alone is over 1100 bucks! NOT INCLUDING THE GLASS!!! I'll be getting the glass fixed by a shop and pocketing the rest to fix it myself. Heck, I've already got the materials since I've been going to repaint this thing forever anyway... Now all I have to do is spend an extra afternoon to get paid 1100 bucks! (half pay out now, half when the work is inspected by a claims adjuster after my body work is complete.) A few dents in the hood, one above the A pillar. Everything looks easy enough to get out... or perhaps this is what I need to get a cowl or RA-I hood.

That's the worst part... I just had surgery on this past Thursday for my sleep apnea (tonsils gone, adnoids gone, soft palet reduced) and I can't do anything for two weeks because I could break a blood clot loose. I can't even do any light assembly on my new engine, or even wash the car, let alone get any good work done on the damage. Looks like I can start, not this coming weekend, but the weekend after...

Semi-truck tire cap popped off (of the truck in front of me) and smacked my hood/glass/roof. I've always seen the re-treads laying on the side of the road, but I've never been hit with one as it came off! WOWZA!

If you thought that was fun you should try dodging a flying surfboard on the freeway going 60mph in the rain. Wooo!

In all seriousness though, sorry to hear about the damage, hope you can fix it as good as new.

yeah, that's true. my drive to work yesterday took 3 hours because some guy slammed into the back of a tractor trailer, then another tractor trailer slammed into him and rode up on top of him. to top it off, both trucks rolled over, thus causing 95 to get closed.

This is considered a "no fault" accident and under comprehensive damages. My insurance company is handling it, but it will not effect my rates. $1,077.88 minus a $100 deductable. The check will be cut directly to me for $977.88 since I'm doing the body work myself, plus they're sending over a glass company tomorrow morning to replace the glass (another 3-500 I don't have to pay for). Looks like I should be able to finally paint my car this year...

Your lucky a semi lost a wheel as it passed me and one of the lugnuts hit my windshield very scary. The wheel and tire bullseyed a truck behind me totalled it bad and the guy had to go to the hospital. Glad your OK!

I'll give you 75 for some gauge bezels if you are in a pinch.

Do they really need to be that expensive?

Wow, that really sucks. It looks like you've turned it into a positive though. Are you repainting the same color or something different?

75 clams doesn't even cover my cost on them. I make about 8-10 bucks per set selling them for what I do. I didn't do them to make money... I'm not in a pinch anyway, I've been saving between 400 and 600 a month by not having a car payment for the last two years and three months I've had this car. Time for a makeover!

I go back and forth on colors and graphic treatments. My current thought is a very dark metalic gray with a RA-I or RA-II hood with flat black stripes. I also really like a Ford color called Terredor Red that I thought about doing two tone with another Ford color called SilverFrost metalic with ghost birds on the nose and sails... What ever I do, it won't be quite stock when I'm done.

First thing is first though, I need the new engine/trans to be done so that it doesn't smoke so bad on start up... She's got the worst valve seal problem I've ever seen on any SBC. Something so that I won't be stink-ily ebarrasment-ified...

Good things can happen from accidents like these. I am glad you are alright and have a positive outlook on it. Much like you, when I blew my 305, I didn't see it as a bad thing, but an oppertunity to improve. Good luck with the car.
