Hood Selection

On my project Car, an 87 Trans Am. I am going to be starting body work pretty soon.

The hood has dents where you can see the previous owner slammed the hood down too far. And it seems as if the hood flew up while driving, the hood is bent above the mounts, the mounting area looks bent. Its very weird.

I know all of this can be fixed by myself. This i know.

I want to keep my car looking stock, somewhat, yet have what it needs under the hood, and when you open the door, the interior makes you gasp for air. this is a major project.

I've seen RAI, RAII, most cowls, and others... But what hood would bring about a sleeper syle appeal, yet look mean at the same time?

RAI and RAII are too, almost cowlish hoods, and too modern. I want it to look like they came stock, this ram air hood fad didn't start till the late 90's. Cowl is an old classic, but i want a small cowl if i go cowl, maybe 3" max. I dont want my vision obstructed while driving the car.

Is it better for me to fix my current stock steel hood, and buy a 2" cowl from like jegs. Mold it to my hood and be set.

Or buy a 2-3" cowl hood if they make them?

What are complications in molding fiberglass to steel? Off the top my head i can see heat may cause cracking from expansion and contraction.

Are there any cars on here who pulled this off and made it look nice?

I personally like the glasstek hoods. 2" cowl that hangs over the edge instead of going straight up that really looks like the 1st gen cowl hoods. I'm putting one on my 92 if I ever need a new hood.

Of course you're working on a Trans Am....oops.
