82 Trans/am should I buy it??

Hi, i just saw 82 ta with black leather PMD seats rear and front. Cross fire injection decent body, but might need work. THey are selling it for 2400. I am sure I can give 2k in cash and drive away with it. Should I do it.
Cuz I'll probably just use all of its parts on my 89 bird. But you never know. Probably change the seats and try to re-sell it.
I need advice.
Thanks

At $2k, I don't think it'd make a good parts car for your 89 bird, because the crossfire engine isn't desirable and PMD seats can't be that hard to come by. How's the T/A run and what kind of shape is the body in?

what parts would you use on your 89? $2000 doesn't seem bad, I paid $3000 for my '82. It didn't have the Crossfire setup or the Turbocast rims, but the interior is in great shape and the body and paint is in very good condition. For a parts car that might seem kind of high. You could probaly sell some of the parts to "Knight Rider" people...they will pay anything. DON'T make a KITT conversion, there are better uses for these cars than that. What kind of shape are the seats in and the interior in general? How many miles? While you might not need/want the CFI setup you could sell that also...I'd buy it from you, I need a CFI setup for my 'bird

I never met an 82 trans am that I didn't like!

Why not buy it and have two firebirds? Two are better than one!

I just saw it couple of days ago and the black PMD's seemed in great shape. The crossfire is the cool factor although whimpy in power. How's this. 82 TA recaro edition, pretty bad shape, some times it runs, sometimes it doesnt. $400 but maybe I can get it for 200. Its the real recaro edition, but everything seems to be in crappy condition. What do you think??? I am just probably over my head in this.
I went for the Knight rider conversion and I did it with an 82 ta bumper modified for the scanner. Now when I see camaros with ground effects and in good condition I stare in awe. I want a decent car and my ground effects that came on the bird were crap. I am going to a junk yard tomrow and I'll see what I can get for my ride.

Thanks for the replys, it helps a lot.

I like having too many cars at once, I really do. If I saw an 82 T/A like you're describing for a few hundred bucks I'd buy it. X-fire can be made to run well just like everything else, it just needs the right stuff. Most can be had from the wrecking yard like injectors, better computer with better rates and all that good stuff that's on this site. You buy it, and you'll be one wrecked car buy away from a really cool car that you don't see every day. What could the car possibly need that a parts car and a few well planned trips to the junkyard can't provide? Think about it. I don't know about you, but those kind of things are why I love this site so much. All of the knowledge that you need to turn a completely scrap recaro T/A into a trophy winner is right here on this site, you're just parts away from glory!!

If you could get a Recaro for $200 no matter how crappy, I would do it! Recaros are hard to find, let alone an '82. You could restore it, or if you wanted to part out the recaro specifc stuff you would make way more than what you bought the car for. Does it have the gold rims with the gold pontiac logo on the hubcap?

Its got the gold rims yes. This car was the very first one I was gonna buy. Than after the tranny was re-built the car kept on vaporlocking and it would shut off. I barely had any money so i opted to skip on it. I think the guy is still trying to get rid of it. I'll contact him and ask him to get the car going and re-build the tranny. He'll still, after that work, give me the car for 400.
I am totally going on your opinions and suggestions now, since I know how rare the recaros are. I'll call him and see whats up. Than off to the races to get the car going.
