How to make it shine after laying the clear

I've read through a ton of posts and frankly it's confusing.
After I lay the clear I wet sand it with 1000grit 24hrs later right?
Then what. Some say polish it with a rotary buffer, but isn't a swirl remover everything a polish is, plus an abrasive? So why do two steps when you can do one?
Do I need to use wool pads or foam or polyester or does it matter.

In short after I clear and wetsand is there ONE step I can do to get it nice and smooth and shiney and be done with it?

Also do any big chain stores like walmart, lowes, etc sell the 3m product I am most likey to be recommended? It would be easier then finding a paint store.

no there is not any one step there will be a bunch to get the wet look your after... 1000 grit wet is the first cut then do again with 1200 and finally with 1500.....

then you buff with a wool pad.....

then you can buff with a foam pad

then you can do it by hand with a polish

if you try just a swirl remover youll be there for months trying to cut that scratch the wet sanding leaves behind.

yes get perfect it polishing compound great stuff.. the the same perfect it swirl remover. i got mine from pep boys.

jeff

post some pics when your done.. and go slow you don;t want to burn the paint of take it off the edges be aware it will take the paint off before you know it on the edges.
