rust on wheels

I have some aftermarket Cragars on my 86 Sport Coupe. (check my web page to see them) Anyway, there is a small amount of rust on one of them. Would it be possible to remove it with a very light sandpaper, like 100+ grit? Any suggestions other than replacing it?

Try "Rubbing Compound"; I forget who makes it. It comes in a red plastic container like paste car wax. It won't hurt the chrome but will take off rust. You can get it anywhere that sells car wax.

If they are chrome, just polish them. Turtle wax makes some good, cheap chrome polish, give it a try. The problem is that the chrome isn't rusting, the metal underneith it is.

Never take any sandpaper to the wheels. That will kill them.

It's called "Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover" and is made for that exact situation. And it works very well. I've used it on my 10 year old centercaps with good results.
