If it says 6.6 L on the hood scoop its a 403 if says 6.6 t/a its a 400, my girl friends dad has a 79 t/a with the 403 very nice looking and sounding car but its slower than my v6.

That front bumper style was 79-81. You have to watch though, it could have a 301 Pontiac, 400 Pontiac, or 403 Oldsmobile motor (or Chevy motor if it was swapped). A lot of the 2nd Gen birds get repainted and not-car-specific decals put back onto them. Difference between OLDs Motor and Pontiac Motor; Olds Has the distributor at the front of the engine. Hard to tell between 301-400 Pontiac. If it was a 80-81, It has the 301 motor. Out of all those engine choices, the 400 Pontiac is the one to go with. 6x heads and a lumpy cam, you would be surprised how that motor comes to life..

The distributor is in the back.
It does have a very noticable oil filler in the front, though.
This is my 79 T/A

And the 403, note the distibutor location and oil filler.

Leon.
Leon,
Nice looking second gen!
My ragtop '79 is Blue, with blue decals, and transplanted black interior.
The car you describe sounds like a 1979, but all the decal companies sell sets with the TA 6.6 hoodscoop decals, so they could have been changed.
Look at the vin and the data plate. They will tell you the year. Cars with that style of nose and tail treatment, were built from 1979 to 1981, so yes, it could be a chevy engine in there too.
If the engine looks like the one in the pic above, it's a 403 olds.
