Simple Green and Polished Surfaces

I tried doing a search, but I didn't see anything that without a doubt answered my question.

What I need to know is will Simple Green, straight or mixed 2 to 1 with water, hurt the clear coat on my IROC rims or the polish on my Vette wheels.

Thanks for the help.

Simple Green states on the bottle not to use it on aluminum. However - in my bicycle racing days we used to use it on aluminum all the time as high end racing bikes have all sorts of aluminum components hung on them, regardless of what the frame is made from (aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber, steel) and I never had a problem with it.

I'd either cut it 2:1 with water or, if you have a Costco membership then get a gallon of Kirkland All Purpose Cleaner and cut that 10:1 instead. If you have a shop near you that sells the Meguiar's Detailer Line or Meguiar's Professional Line (that's right, this is NOT the consumer stuff you normally pick up at the auto parts store down the street) then get Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner and cut it 10:1.

The fact that you have a clear coat tells me any of the above products will be OK for you, but I would definitely either wax those wheels or, better yet, apply a coat of sealant to them (like Zaino, Meguiar's NXT, etc). It will make brake dust cleanup totally painless in the future.

So what your saying is that I don't need to worry about Simple Green on the clear coat of my wheels?

Thanks for the help.

+ a tooth brush, works wonders! Safe on rims, and cleaned mine up perfect! Even the hard to remove spots.

It will not harm a stock clear coated IROC wheel. I wouldnt use it on a highly polished wheel. Should of said that. Although I still think if you used it on a polished wheel with care, you'd be fine.
