Buffing black car
Okay... when I had my car up at the local show I realized just how bad my car is... the paint is good, but its laden with swirls and tiny scratches.
Can anyone recommend some products/procedures to lessen the swirls and generally enhance the color?
EDIT: Found a lot of stuff thru searching but wondering if my buffer will work. Its a craftsman, I dont know how big the pad is, its like 8" i'd guess. But its not an orbital, just regular rotation.

Best way to take care of your problem is to use a proven system that has worked for many. I use the Meguiers line of products, and I also have a Craftsman Buffer.
Step 1: Use Meguiers #2 fine cut cleaner with your buffer, and a wool pad. This will remove all of the fine scratch'es that are in your finish. After you use this product you will have swirl marks left from the cleaner. Be careful when your buffing that you don't stay in one spot to long, and avoid the ridges, edges , and body lines other wise it is real easy to do what is called Burn through.
Step #2: Use Meguiers #5 swirl remover with your buffer, and a foam pad. This will remove the swirl marks and fill any fine scratch'es that are left in the finish.
Step #3: Use Meguiers #7 show car hand glaze with your hands, and elbows. Use a Terry applicator pad to apply, and a Micro cloth to polish. This will give you the look you want for the shows.
Step #4: Use your favorite car wax to seal in all that shine.
This takes some practice, and if you have a salvage yard close you could pick up a used fender, and practice on it. Hope this helps you out as it has really been a good process for me over the years.
