IROC hood loovers-how to "polish"

A copla of the loover inserts are a bit dull & milky; I would like to hear of any tried and proven ways to polish them.

Also, do you guys do a shine or a matt finish on the loovers??

I've found that a light sanding followed by a couple coats of black trim paint usually works better than polishing, but if you would prefer to polish, I've found that a mild rubbing compound or hand glaze works well for getting it 90% there, then finish it off with a plastic polish or a automotive machine polish that you apply by hand.

Go with the matte or "flat black". Classic.

OK I just tried a little Mother's rubbing compound and cleaner/wax on the louvers.

The combo seemed to take off the roughness and bring up a shine but just cleaner/wax was not enough.

I'm surprised at how "rough" is the finish on them!!

I take mine off once a year, hit 'em with some scotchbrite pads, and then give'em a coat or two of flat black, then one coat of clear. I've found that the clear allows for MUCH easier cleaning by taking some of the texture out of the surface. Of course, it does add a little more gloss, but it's still not really "glossy" per se.

I dunno, that's my method.

Hi Jim...Meguires Step 1 deep crystal paint cleaner works great. Just buff them like you would your paint. You could even use buffing pads if you really want them to shine. 3m Finesse it II would work good as well. Just have to get the oxidation off.

Ive done a few sets they polish up really good. Just keep buffing they will shine.

If you want to waste your time and not paint the louvers you can do what I do. When I got my car the louvers were sunbaked and gray. So i used some windex to get the dirt off and then I used a lot of armor all. In the end my louvers looked black and shiny. I apply some armor all on everyday though.
