Zaino Story

I thought this was kinda funny...

I went to Zaino a BMW Z3 at a local Cadillac dealer today. As I was getting ready to take the car to go work on it, David, the guy thats hooking me up with all these cars to Zaino introduced me to a big african-american sales representative, and told him I was there to 'do the Zaino Bros.'

David walks inside to get the keys and the dude says:

"Zaino Brotha's!? Whats that, some kinda fraternity!?"

I told him "No, its more like a cult."

He kinda stepped back and said, "Ahh..." and had the most puzzled look, and went inside.

Had to be there I guess

This Zaino stuff (which I haven't tried) seems like alot of work if you do all the steps listed on their website. Is it really that much more work than, for example, a (1) clean, (2) polish, (3) wax with Meguiars Deep Crystal System ?

Is it that much better?

No, it's not. After the first coat is on (Z1 on, then Z2,Z3, or Z5 right on top of it), subsequent coats glide on (practically one wipe) and once dry, comes off with almost literally only the weight of the towel on the car.

With Meguires, my arms would be sore after a day of working with it (it would take me 5 to 8 hours to detail my car, most of it was the Mequires 3-step system!) The only Meguires product that came off easily was their cleaner-wax, but that stuff was chalky and left white deposits that added a lot of extra work to get out. (White deposits like in the line between the fender and noseclip and in the raised lettering in the lamp assemblies).

Oh, Cody, you're right. You had to be there.

I agree with Jza completely on the Mequiars thing! I've never used Zaino yet but the mequiars was a pain to use! But, hey, if you think Mequiars is a pain...try the Turtle Wax stuff!! That stuff is a complete B*TCH to use BUT it does work 100 times better than the Mequiars stuff! This year I'm gonna try either the Zaino stuff or 3M Perfect It II since my car is heavily oxidated!!

FYI, to wash with dawn, clay and apply the z-1 and 2 for my 92, 3 hours is all it took. But then you have to wait for the initial coat to dry completely before trying to remove it. The wait is worth it IMO and subsequent coats go on easier and dry faster. With each coat the shine gets deeper. I used the Meguiars for years but if the initial results are any indication of zaino's quality, I'm hooked. You should see the beading action with the hose.

No. Zaino is a synthetic polish.

No. Zaino works in multiple coats. One coat lasts a long time, but the more coats you do the better the shine, gloss, and even durability gets. With wax, you use it one time. You wait a few weeks/days until its all gone. Wash with Dawn to get the old wax off and start over.
