hey that looks pretty good!
Re: C5 Mirrors ???
right when i saw the title of this thread, i instantly though "NO!" in my head...but now that i see them on that 91 formula, im diggin it! someone has to have more pics of that car
Re: C5 Mirrors ???
I've started on it, like a year or 2 ago.
You have to drill a 3rd hole for the 3rd stud in the mirror. The other 2 studs go about in about the same spot.
You have to grind down the lower part of the mirror so it fits the contour of the door. Grinding and checking to make sure you didn't grind too much takes forever.
You have to make your own gasket. Rubber from farmer's old tractor tire tubes works perfectly.
Unfortunatly, I have to re-do mine. Back in the day, my old mirror hit the side of the garage and bowed the door in. Recently, I got a new door and the C5 mirror is completely off.
I've seen a lot of 1st gen camaros with c5 mirrors on the net.
I hope to get back to working on the mirrors and have them completed in the next month.
The C5 mirrors are awesome, they are a lot bigger so you see a lot more.

Guess its just me but i loved the styling of 3rd gen mirrors. I think they fit perfectly to the car.
Those C5 mirrors look alright and add some unique-ness though.

I'm going with C5 mirrors because it should match what I'm doing with the rest of the car. A spoiler thats a couple inches higher, a hood thats a couple inches higher, why not have a mirror that sticks out a couple more inches.
A couple more pics.
Thats my old door. I was going to go with some C5 style(grand prix rear) door handles but I've now decided to go with polished aluminum 4th gen door handles.

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
The C5 mirrors are a little too rounded for the angular 3rdgen IMO. GM Hightech Performance featured a 4thgen T/A with C5 mirrors which actually looked pretty good.

Not many people like them but these are the mirrors I am buying and getting professionally installed.

I am making my car track capable, and I think these will make the car look hella better. I will be getting them painted of course. I like CF but not showing, unless its my driveshaft or hood or one of those things.

Agree with rwdtech, they look better on the 91-92 than the other years. But I prefer the stock ones to those.
btw man, when are you getting a 91-92 Formula?

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
I can see those on a 91/92 TA, because of the roundness of them, fits with with the 91/92 nose.
I want the 4th gen TA side view mirrors for my GTA, like on RedRaif's car.

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
GM has the right style mirrors on our cars. Maybe on the 91-92 bird or on the 4th gens. Otherwise stick with GM.
Re: C5 Mirrors ???
yes, scan pics of it please! thanks
i think it looks excellent, a 4th gen TA wing would set it off. it would look even better to shorten the stem of the mirror just a tad so they dont stick out so much. heck i would do it if i had a 91-92 formula

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
Red92Bird is right. Sorry I never responded. I never got a reply notice on your post, until I got the reply notice on Red92bird's reply.
I believe 88 was the first year for the C/K series trucks, and they were the same until about 98 (the Tahoes & Suburban were the same as the C/K trucks from about 94-01)
I think the squar-ish shape, is perfect for our cars.

As luck would have it......a friend of mine has a truck he is scrapping with those exact door handles.
Stephen......do i need any of the inner workings of the handle/lock mechanism?

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
All that was needed inside the door, was hooking up the rod to the latch. That just required a little bending of the rod. No big deal at all.
No interior handle changes, nothing. I just had to have new door keys made....or the cylinders were swapped. I think they were, but that was like 13 years ago, so I don't recall.

Well...judging by your less than advanced level of spelling, I'd imagine once you get out of first grade your mommy and daddy will let you step up from Barney and Sesame Street, and allow you to watch the big boy movies like Shrek, too. hehehe
You said you wanted opinions...now you have mine: The C5 mirrors make the car look like Shrek...in my opinion...at least in the above picture. Now go out there and slap those antenn...er...mirrors on your car and be happy. Maybe all the other kids in class will be green with envy. Har-har
I say if you like it, go for it!
PS- "Cars" is another good movie. You could always go with Mater's mirror style, too. Classy, no doubt.

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
Sorry rwdtech - i tried scanning pics of the magazine with hawks car in it but my friend's scanner just doesn't work right.
I did happen to get my project car up running again so I washed it and took a couple pics from the drivers side:

p.s. - My fender is off because i'm re-wiring the engine bay wiring through there.

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
I think the 4th gen mirrors would be easier. It took me a good week to get one of the c5 mirrors just right after grinding. I'll probably go with 4th gen mirrors on my other firebird.
Other than appearance, the best thing about the C5 mirrors is that you can see a lot more. The glass is about 1.5x-2x larger. Its just amazing how much more you can see out of them.

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
It's an old post, but what are the C5 mirrors like weight wise?
I hear the 3rd gen ones are kinda heavy. I bet there's no manual c5 mirrors though...

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
No clue on the C5 mirrors.
Re: C5 Mirrors ???
I just weighed one modified C5 mirror. 2 lbs 4.1 oz.
This is what i mean by modified: The base of the mirror, the part that attaches to the door is all aluminum. That base has to be cut down to match the contour of the thirdgen door. I cut/grind out quite a bit of it. The top part of the mirror is all plastic so it is light.
Anyone know what a thirdgen mirror weighs?

Re: C5 Mirrors ???
This year(2008), the main thing I am working on the car is the exterior. I might have the whole car painted by early fall 08 but probably spring 09. So, in a year I should hopefully have some real paint instead of spray paint covering the mirrors.

Those mirrors stick out like a sore thumb and fit a thirdgen just about as well as the RAII hood. That is to say, not at all.
