Detailing Firebird headlight bezels up and down

I need to clean up the black areas on my headlights both in the up and down positions (like the area around the PONTIAC lettering on the driver side unit).

I polished my taillights with Meguiar's PlastX this week, so I have a little experience with it, and I also have Mother's Back to Black. I figure the BtoB will just wash off eventually. Will the PlastX dull the black, or is it okay to use there?

I also have 3M's Perfect It III clearcoat rubbing compound. I used it on the taillights along with wetsanding, too. I either of those will work, I've got that at my disposal.

you can take the black pieces off pretty easy, it will make things a hell of a lot easier for you during you detailing process. there are 4 screw on each one just under the top panel on the sides. just take them out and the black part can we wiggled out.

i ended up just cleaning and repainting mine, they were faded and i really could not polish them back up.

I ended up just repainting mine as well, and they still look grat 4 years later.

I used a satin black, so it still looks like plastic

They are not that expensive for new ones. I checked on them at the local GM dealer in town and he said he could get them for me for $17 each.

It's hit or miss what parts are still available at the dealers! Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Detailing Firebird headlight bezels up and down

For the heck of it, I used a little PlastX on them today. The passenger side unit and parking light shined up very well as did the driver side parking light bezel, but the driver side headlight bezel only cleaned up about half as well. It's like the plastic had a slightly different texture on that piece.

My headlights are acting up, and today was the second time they seemed to lock themselves down. Next time they try to pop up, I'll take the bezels off. I will likely sand them down a little and shoot them with paint.
