Polished Plenum/Runners

Hello,

Does anyone know of someone that sells these already done? I reeally want it done but I don't have any of the tools or know how to even remove the parts to work on them. Yeah, yeah, laugh... I saw a post about some guy on ebay but have been searching there and seen no auctions. Any info would be appreciated!!

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

I know on ebay there used to be alot of polished plenums, but I dont know of any other places that sell them. I just wish I knew how easy it was to take the plenum out to polish it myself.

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

I didn't know myself how to do it, but I did some research and stuff and learned what to use and the steps, and it turned out awesome. It's really not that hard to do, just time consuming. If i find the article, I will post it.

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

Thanks... do you remember how long ago it was that there were some up? If it's the same person doing them maybe he's just taking a break...

Also do you remember about how much they cost??

If I had the polishing tools, I *think* that I could probably polish it myself without doing too much harm as long as I had someone to remove the pieces and put them back on. I don't wanna destroy my engine

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

I mainly got the info off of the sticky, polishing your wheels
I got all of the materials needed though Eastwoods, which included tripoli compound, and white rouge compound, a spiral sewn buffing wheel and a loose spiral wheel. Here is there web site http://www.eastwoodco.com Good luck!

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

So uh, how difficult is it to remove the pieces if you've never done anything like this before and have little knowledge of the basic workings of the parts? I assume I could I kill my car? It'd never forgive me if I had to have it towed through town... it's known around here.

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

Hears a great website to get you started: http://www.gmtips.com/3rd-degree/dox...m/pol-plen.htm
There's allot of great information on that site, so check it out.

You cant beat the satisfaction you get knowing you polished your plenum and runners yourself. If this is your first time taking apart anything apart, Id just take off the plenum first as the runners are a little harder to get to. Or if your car is a DD, buy an extra plenum, and set of runners that will fit your car, so you can take your time with it. And while you have the extra set off might as well port it too.

Taking off the Plenum is a piece of cake, you cant really screw it up. Just take pictures of where the three vacuum lines go, and remember to unplug the wire thats under the plenum(forgot what its called), don't yank the plenum up until you disconnect it. Also note the where the throttle cable's go threw the bracket. And besides that you pretty much just unbolt the throttle body, runner bolts, and throttle cable bracket.

And when its all over and done with you should get something like this:

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

Thanks!! It looks awesome.. right down to the STB I want, too That is a great article. Taking the plenum off does sound easy, but if there is any possible way to screw it up, I'll probably find it. So I guess I should start with the plenum and depending how much of a nightmare that is, go for the runners later...

For S&G I called a shop and they said it would take 3 to 4 hours total to remove and put back on the plenum and runners after I polished them, quoting $400 3 to 4 hours sounds like a long time to me... maybe it's because of the runners?? Or are they just trying to screw me... probably a little of both. Either way I'm not paying that... He also said I shouldn't attempt to polish it myself, that you can end up with pits that don't show up until you're done, but that's why you keep changing the grit as mentioned in the article, right? He also said something about making sure 'whoever does it' uses something called zoot (sp?) for $80 to seal it. Has anyone done this?

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

3 to 4 hours.........I don't think so, maybe an hour to remove. If you have all of the right tools in front of you, less than that. Don't listen to him, just do it yourself, you will not regret it. Plus it is a good learning experience. It really is not hard at all.

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

I will try it. I need to get the tools, though. I'm thinking I'll get the aluminum extension for the plenum and try doing that first before attacking the plenum itself. Thanks for the advice everyone

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

It worth it to just take your time and take your intake apart don't be afraid of it just take your time and take pics. Its worth it so you don't have to take crap form people like that guy that wants 400 and tells you to do a polish job he thinks you won't like and then seal it with zoops. It does take alot of time to take a TPI apart the first time you do it.

Re: Polished Plenum/Runners

Erm sorry to bump this again, but I'm getting near a vacation when I plan on trying this out. I just had a couple questions.

Is this what is meant by the Tripoli Compound? http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT

And is this white rouge?
http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT

There are a few products of each with "Tripoli" or "White rouge" in the name so I want to be sure this is what I need.

Also a dumb question... how do I know when it's time to switch to the next grain of grit? When everything appears smooth as I can get it with the current grit?

If anyone has done the aluminum plenum extension, did you do that by hand? I don't have a vise which I assume would be needed... Thanks
