1982-84 BIRDS LOOKING LIKE 85-90 OR 91-92
hey guys any of you had modified your car to make it look like an 85-90 with Groun Effects or like a 91-92 but it is really an 82-84 ??please im very interested in see some cars like that cause i want to make it
thanksĄ
thanksĄ
I do. I have an '83 TA. The previous owner dropped in a 350 4 bolt main engine and modified the exterior to look like an '86. I have black GTA wheels(which need to be repainted), the front nose from an '86, the hatch from an '86(third brake light...which I cant get to work), and the back bumper cover from an '86. I have all the ground effects on it, besides the ones that attach on the doors and beneath the doors. I also have the grid style tail lights and center bird from an '88 GTA. It is my first car, and I am pretty happy with it. It is not in the best condition, but good enough. I want to post pics, but have no digital camera. I am planning on redoing the interior. I already have a black rug, black plastic interior pieces from a '91 TA, and am planning on 4th gen seats. But I am not sure if the car is worth putting all the money in. I like the look a lot better than the original stock look. I relly like the look of the '86 front end and the stock power bulge hood. I do have some electrical problems with the tail lights. I am thinking about seeing how much it is going to be to be fixed, and if it is a little much, then I will sell the car. I havent actually gotten to drive it that much, since I am only 16, but if anything, my next car will be an '86-'90 TA. I really want a 350 TPI, even though I love the 350 4 bolt main in my car now. Sorry that I am getting off the topic, but is it worth fixing up my car with the 350 4 bolt main...or should I get a car with a 350 TPI? Is it better to go carborated or fuel injected? I definitely want to stick with a 350...no more and no less. Let me know. I think it is really cool how my car looks like an '86, but yet in reality it is an '83. No offense to those with '82'-'83 cars, but I dislike the front ends and tail lights of these cars the most.

I am about to make my 83 look like an 85-90 T/A. the bumper covers and ground effects are all ya need, they bolt right on, well cept for the ground effects, you have to drill holes for them. Basically, if you remove the bumper covers and ground effects from any 82-92 firebird, they are all the same. Oh btw if you really want to make it look good, get an aerowing spoiler like the 85-90 TA's and 87-90 GTA's had. Click on the GT auto Accessories banner at the top of the page to see the ones they make.

Hey Ward, are you going to replace the hood with one of the newer style hoods....You know the ones with the vents? I love those hoods, but I think the power bulge hood that came stock on my car makes it look really sporty. I like the functional cold air intake that works when you press the gas. I dont know if I should comprimise it or not. Other than that, you would never be able to tell the difference between my car and an '86, unless your an expert. I have the aerospoiler(the wrap around spoiler) and it looks so much better than the flat stock one. I am thinking about getting my car painted in a year. Which color should I paint it? Should I paint it using a newer paint scheme and have the gfx silver and the car red? Or should I paint it a solid color? This is my first car, so I dont want to go crazy with a paint job. I always wanted to have a small screaming chicken painted no the top of the power bulge and have flames fading down the scoop. I always thought that would look cool, has anybody ever seen this done? Or if I got the '86 and up style hood with the vents, then I would get ghost flames coming out of the vents. What is a nice shade of red to get on my car. Also, should I paint the wrap around spoiler? Or should I keep it black?

Jim it all depends on what you like. I cant tell ya what to do to your car, but I can tell you how im gonna do mine. I dont really like too many decals, stickers, or emblems. I believe there is a fine line between decoration and overkill. Too many decals and you look like a *****, too few and it looks plain. I plan to delete all the chrome from my car, delete the firebird fender emblems, and leave off any birds. I also want to shave the antenna. I will keep my car black, but I need to repaint it. I will install the stock ground effects from an 85-90 firebird. Im still collecting GFX pieces from junk yards & swap meets though. I want to drop my car about 1-2" and get some 17 or 18" 5 spoke wheels, havent decided which ones yet. Im looking at Torque thrust 2's or ROH RT's. Also, I will tint my windows as dark as they will legally go. And all my parkign lights are already blacked out, im gonna leave em that way, but i will also black out my tail lights, which I have already switched to the 85-90 style. Note: 85-90 T/A and 87-90 GTA tail lights bolt right in to 82-84 Firebirds. And yes, I am gonna order the new hood from GT Auto Accessories which has the 2 vents, and I want to make them functional. I'll also get their 85-90 aerowing spoiler. My goal is to have people see my car when all this is done and say 'holy crap is that the same car?'. Anyways, just do whatever you think looks good to your car. Well thats usually true, if you think chrome tail lights and a whale-tail wing look good, then... :P
