I have a 1985 Z28, and when I bought the car I could easily tell that the front license plate holder was of the previous owners handywork.
I was wondering whether or not a front license plate came from the factory in 85? I would really like to remove the ugly scuffed, jimmy rigged holder and proudly display the CAMARO on my front bumper. Some quick bondo work will take care of the bolt holes that were drilled for the holder.
My logic is this if I determine a front plate holder in 85 to be an aftermarket add-on.
1) Contact the DMV and inquire about their front plate laws if the vehicle was from the factory without one
2) Remove the front plate if it is not required for a car without one from the factory.
3) Carry proof of this legality in the car at all times for any dillweed cop that I know will be waiting to pull me over.
I really don't expect anyone to know VA law, but if someone has an idea of the law for front plates here, that would be good as well.

Yes, the factory put on plate holders for those states that needed it. My Z28 originally had one as the car was sold in NY. It clipped solidly to the grill opening. I didn't have fogs. If you did, you would have to drill the indented holes out on that other type of grill to comply with your state reqt's.
I don't know if you need front plates. look around am I'm sure you'll get your answer. It doesn't matter what it came with from the factory

VA may be getting rid of the front tag law
i have seen people set it in their windshield down at the bottom and have no trouble also mounted on the air dam, there is some posts about it running around on here
if i live in a state where front tag were required mine would be in the windshield and i wouldnt give a crap if they didnt like it
, if i get a ticket zip tie it to the front show them so they drop the ticket (you fixed it its on the front) then leave and cut the zip ties a mile down the road and put it back in the windshield

I hope VA gets rid of front tags.
Until then, I'm gonna whip out the drill one of these days and mount it to the air dam.
I've always thought license plates in the windshield looked extremely ghetto/tacky, plus I am one of the few that has a mint condition dash pad I don't want getting scratched up so that's unfortunately out of the question.
