The tubes are usually made of lexan so they don't break as easy, and you put them inside the frame-rails (don't know the technical term) so that METAL is still the lowest point on the car.

I love this topic. here is a pic of my cars. and to answer your question, the only time one of my bulbs broke is when the wire came loose and was dragging on the ground without me knowing about it, and when i backed up, it caught under my tire and just ripped the bulb off the car and smashed it. streetglow replaced it with their lifetime warrantee.
DUDES! I just bought these for my car the ATGI underbody kit, with the PURPLE NEON, they look SOOOOOOO COOL, gonna take a pick and post it soon, also had my hooker exhaust put on and that is sweet to, and I got black lights on the inside, now all I need is my hooker super comp shorty headers and im golden... I hope I put these lights on right so they dont get smashed to crap

That is so kick @SS! My friend got some for his SUV, and we wern't sure If i could get them, thinking i would break them so easy on my T/A. But after seeing that I'm getting them. The blue ones for my silver T/A!!!
My car came with purple neon on it (not sure why the guy didnt buy blue...) Im going to buy blue neons for it when I have money to waste. Its got the hook up for the front and back, but the neon itself isnt there. This is my favorite pic of the neon. I dunno why it turned out blue, but, it looks better anyways!

Wow, I dug this outta a hole...anywayz, some blue neons...USA brand I believe....no back bulb yet cuz it was broken...UPS man dont know what fragile means...I shoulda went street glow but I couldn't find a dealer that sold them around here and on their site they are expensive...these are just as good I think, just a tad smaller along the sides, but they glow like streetglow...I need some new pictures...will get some when the back bulb is installed...they look really short in the pics cuz they havent had time to warm up, they glow longer when they warm up for some reason....

Iunno, NJ is a long ways away from KS, and in KS they still havent decided if they are legal or not...I can cruise around all weekend with them on and pass all kinds of cops and not get pulled over, but then one cop will pull me over and tell me to shut them off... iunno bout parking lots, never had any problems here. I got pulled over by a state trooper one night (thought for the lights) but got a speeding ticket (I was confused) and then I pulled into town and got pulled over by the local cop and he told me to shut them off...so Iunno what to tell anyone bout them.

I've always thought the under glow was pretty cool, but really can only use it for cruise nights, can't see it during the day and it's a huge cop magnet at night.

It was 1995. I was 10 years old. I was at the local dairy queen going smash on a sundae. In pulls this green z28 with a whale tail spoiler and green neons. I thought it was cool, but that was with the 90's era.
If you're trying to date your car to it's period, do it. Just make sure to stock up on dokken cassettes.

Btw, the whole point of the underglow lights is to show off how low the car is. When the car is really low, the light just diffuses off the ground and it looks like a spaceship. On stock third gen, the body is just a little to high off the ground to give the proper effect. If you compare to a slammed car, you'll see what I mean.
