bulge formula hood

I was thinking, and I thought it would be awesome if there was a way to take the plate that is on the power bulge hood and cut it and make a piece that holds it, then run a wire to the throttle linking on the carb, so when you get on it, the plate would open. That would look cool. Has anyone heard of this being done. If so could you show me pics or tell me how it is done. thanks

That was a stupid idea, then you wouldn't be able to open your hood. Nevermind.

Hold on, not so stupid. The power bulge hoods on 82-84 Trans Ams WERE functional on carbed engines. On my 83, there was a solenoid that would activate when you were at WOT (I think it was WOT). Then cowl forced air would rush though a box that acted as a bridge between the hood and the air filter housing. That box mounted to the hood under the bulge. So when you opened the hood it was free from the air filter housing, but when you closed it, it sealed the pathway to the air filter. Never think an idea is stupid. You just never know.

Yea...that is exactly the hood that is on my car. If you have a newer TA then it would look bad a$$ on it. Look around the junkyards. I like the way it looks on my car with the front end of an '87 TA. I hate the looks of '83 front ends...but the hood is nice. It looks great...and it works great. It is one of my favorite hoods for TA's.

Go look at a 81Z28, they have butterflies in the cowl hood, I'm sure there would be some way to fab some butterflies for a power buldge hood, that's what i want to do to mine, even though it is already funtional, I want to see it instead of having it hidden.

The problem with the bulge hood is the irregular shape of the bulge. Here's a few pics of the bulge intake setup from a Cross Fire Trans Am.

I imagine it'd be nearly impossible to fabricate something other than stock parts that would bolt in.
I picked up the CFI duct with the intention of trying to duct it into the air intake on my L98... decided it wasn't worth the trouble. I've got it listed in the classifieds if anyone needs one.
The best way I've found to deal with the useless bulge is just to use a early T/A grill and leave it open so it vents heat. Couldn't tell ya how much it helps, but it looks better.
