Depends on the type of paint, products used and the color. I had over $1300 in materials to paint my convertible.

Ol' Chuck used some really "good" stuff and I don't blame him a bit. You can get high quality materials for a complete for somewhere in the range of $500.00 to $800.00 in materials.

This would produce the type of job that a body shop would quote $2500.00 to $4000.00 for. Chuck probably wound up with a job that a shop would quote $5000.00 to $12,000.00 for.

hey thanks mike, i got scared when chuck said that, but thanks for the estimate, now what kind of paint (brand names) would be good for this? and how hard is it to do? it cant be too hard if i take my time and am EXTREMELY careful right?

again i have the equipment i need, i just need to prep and stuff, and this kid will paint it for me...hard?

and should i paint on the racing stipes? or find some sticker deals?

thanks guys!

Paint the stripes if you're going to put them on. ALWAYS paint the stripes. They're more of a PITA but it looks a lot better a couple of years down the road. The decals tend to get torn and/or peel off of the paint, leaving a faded area and a fresh area where the sticker used to be.

Talk to your Paint Supply Store. PPG or Dupont are good brands. Use a basecoat/clearcoat process.

2 coats of base
2 coats on the stripes
3 coats of clear OVER the basecoat and stripes.

is there an exact proccess on how to paint the stipes? like cover where you want the stripes, then paint the car, then take up the covers for the stripes and cover the car, and paint the car? or what?
