tire heights...help me out here

I was wondering if someone could tell me the overall difference (in inches) of the hieght of a 275/40/17 tire and a 245/40/16 tire and a 245/50/16 tire. I need to know this because I am deciding what wheels to get and I want to know if i should lower the car or not...please let me know how much different the first two sizes will be from my 245/50/;16 tires i have now.
