IROC-Z28 Sequential Taillights

huge thanks to BigBadLou who helped me out along the way.

Only 2 bulbs flashing. if i wanted 3 i would have to lose reverse lights.

or find a dual filament socket compatible with the 194 sidemarkers. if anyone knows of one let me know.

The 3rd brake lights up like normal, but doesn't flash with the turn signals. Too bad, huh?

I see no reason you couldn't wire the 3rd bulb into lighting up with the tail or the turn. Just that it can't function as both tail & turn/brake, like the others.

ya the 3rd light on the end is the sidemarker, so i dont want to lose that and risk getting tickets for having a sidemarket out

Re: IROC-Z28 Sequential Taillights

You could put in a Firebird side marker line, the put a dual in the corners place. It would hafta be custom fit with some cutting but.....

Re: IROC-Z28 Sequential Taillights

What I find curious is, that in a Firebird, the 3rd brake light doesn't flash like that. It is on a completely separate circuit.

ya i believe this is something i did wrong during installation. BigBadLou just got back to me, i wont have time to look at it til the weekend though.

@Stealth, in the end it wasnt that hard. just nerveracking...cutting up your taillight harness

i scored a full taillight harness from my friend on here who was parting out a car as a backup, but as i went along i realized that with some soldering or what not you could put it back to stock as long as you don't throw anything away

I kinda like it though. Since my 3rd brake light has 2 bulbs in it, I have always wanted to tie each on individually, into the left & right turns. I have haven't taken the effort to run 2 more wires & separate the 2 bulbs into 2 separate circuits, to function as part of the turn signals.

I vote that you keep it that way.

Re: IROC-Z28 Sequential Taillights

I personally dont like it. The blink too fast. And the tails not red all the way across, like a TA would be.

I dont think you'd be bothered by having a side marker out. If its not lite up you would know its supposed to be.

Re: IROC-Z28 Sequential Taillights

Where did you get an adjustable one? Since the 'birds gave 3 bulbs per side, they NEED a slower than stock flasher. My last bulb barely comes on before going off. With the running lights on, you can BARELY see the last bulbs come on before it resets, they all go off & the cycle restarts.

i had the same problem, except only with the turn signals, the hazards worked fine.

plugged right in, one wire you have to send to ground, but it had a ring terminal on it already so that was easy.

Well.....Mine was the prototype for the STS I used to sell.

It is about twice the size as the production versions....Cobbled together from used parts, wrapped in duct tape for its "enclosure", not enclosed in a plastic box box like what everybody else got....And is hanging from the wires it connects to, between the taillight & the body sheet metal!

And yes, I'm serious!

i have mine duct taped to the sheet metal behind the driver side corner of the taillight. might get some gorilla glue or something.

Re: IROC-Z28 Sequential Taillights

Did you get one from Me? From Lou? Or elsewhere?

Did you convert the outermost bulb to a dual filament, or do you only have the first 2 bulbs hooked up?

ok. so i eliminated the stock reverse lights...as a temporary reverse light i took a spare tag light housing and mounted facing backwards in the black end panel...and wired it into reverse. ugly but it works for now.

100% of exterior bulbs are led! for the 3rdbrake light i got 194's with 9 leds on each bulb...lights up the whole housing well for full reflection.

all rear bulbs burn red...and all front bulbs burn amber.

What are you using for a flasher unit? Stock/stock replacement or aftermarket?

that looks awsome! have you consider leaving the bottom grid of the reverse portion as just reverse ? so that you dont mount lights out and look out of place.

that would make the taillights look awkward...and the problem of cutting the housings, sealing them, and making a custom housing for the bottom grid with enough room to hold a socket for a bulb big enough to light up the housing well

thanks for the suggestion though...not trying to be an ***...that's just something I had thought about before.

yeah but with led strips it shouldn't be that hard and they take no space and weather proof, if not inside the housing they can be set in the outer edge of the taillight (next to the plate) almost invisible and very bright.

see the strip on the lower part of the headlight, they are so thin and small they can be put anywere, just a tought...keep up the good work.
