I got a set of billet hood pins from www.Hoodpins.net and thought I would post a few pics. They cost a lot more but the quality is much better and they are something different that you don't commonly see. The machining looked great. I wish they came anodized or powercoated though, I got black ones and they are painted. I'm sure the paint will wear through fairly quickly.

I wouldn't recommend putting in hood pins unless you have too, in my case I needed them. The corners of the hood would lift at high speed but with the pins its totally stabil now.

I mounted the pins just to the inside of the raised part where the rubber hood stops are. If you mount yours in the same spot - Be aware that you may not be able to get the nut on unless you cut a notch on the underside. Thats how I did it, you could probably mount them somewhere else and not have to do that but in my case I think it made for the best looking installation. Depending on what hood you have you may want to mount the pins closer to the rubber stop but my hood is contoured there on the underside and it would have been difficult to get the hole through there.

 

I found this company a while ago. Although I have never needed to install hood pins on any of my cars, I would try this system sometime down the road. I prefer flush mounted locking over hood pins with wires looped around.

150 for hood pins seems a bit much, but they are nice looking. i have 6 hood pins on my hood. i have a lift off hood with an aero scoop fiberglassed on.

 

although I think it's a good idea... I don't know that it work with our hoods... it would seem as though you would need to mount these on a smooth/flush surface, something of which I don't see on our hoods...



edit: does this kit come with a fitting so it's flush on any hood? looks like it might, but not sure... this be something I'd keep in mind for future projects...

 

Yeah, I was concerned about that issue as well. As much as I love the finished appearance of the Aerocatch, I wouldn't install it unless I was sure that it would be 100% flush.

 

I thought about that kind too but I wasn't sure they would work. Plus it scared me making that big of a hole in the hood. I think it would be difficult to get the hole exactly right especially in fiberglass. Wouldn't be a problem if the car is going to be painted but when its already painted I would hate to mess it up.

 

i have Moroso NASCAR approved hood pins and they're great...they come with everything you need (including lanyards) and they were only around $30.
