So after arguing and comparing, I have decided to pretty much go Gunmetal grey. I want to purchase my paint from Trinity 1945 (Paintforcars.com) its this kit. I figure a gallon would be more than enough and more for some practice on some panels to dial the gun in. One thing that I am worrying about is what I have done so far. Basically body is as straight or will be as straight as I want it in a few days. So far I have applied Rustoleum Primer and then Duplicolor Primer sealer. The sad part is, so far in those rattle can purchases, I would of had enough to buy the paint already.

Anyways thats basically where it is at this point, and I see myself getting ready to get it painted in less than a week. Right now I want to give it another sanding pass to double check everything is right for a decent result. I would love to have some knowledge before going in, A neighbor is gonna help me but knowing some bit would be nice.

Should I just wetsand the current job I have done and repair/recoat any uneven sections it back and then just spray it? This is basically should I trust the primers I have layed so far. For the glass parts like the bumpers, ground effects, etc. I just did a regular sand down and used a regular primer coat and then sealer, I know am questioning if this would give good adhesion for the paint.

Or should I take the safe road and sand everything down closest to the factory paint and lay down 2k high build Urethane primer from trinity as well.

As for my tools, I bought a dual gun kit from Harbor freight for $50 (94572), Its basically a regular sized gun with a 1.4 regular tip and 1.8. The mini gun looks ok but the cup is garbage. Anyways, like I said I got a quart of paint from my neighbor and messed around on some panels to see how these harbor freight guns would do and used what looks like HF $20 gun on my old fender and it came out pretty good after dialing it in. So I figured these guns would be more than enough.

Let me know if you guys have any tips, I plan to do this in my garage and I am just looking for a job to last me for a year or two, its gonna be garage kept and only summer driven, so hopefully that aids in that.

i would never trust rattle can primer nor paint specially on the plastic parts, u should apply either plastic primer to them or apply adhesion promoter and then the 2k primer, also if you apply the 2k primer u don't need to use a sealer on top of it.

go ahead and use 1k primer if it only has to last a year or so to save the money. use nason products to ensure great paint for the price ratrios. after the first coat of primer go ahead and check for imperfections, block it down and prime it again to check for perfection. if ur anygood, u should seal the 1k and apply your base coat. if not, fix what ever imperfections you have and always prime it again. if its a car with lots of paint already on it, sand it down before you start. (no more than five coats is recommended)

Yea I have it bookmarked

But still, to me $200 for a gallon of 2k primer and 1 gal of paint, that is budget.

Thanks for the tips guys, I did some research and talked to my neighbor and we decided its best to resand the car down and be safe. I will post when it gets paint in the next week!
