hi all, i have a question which you may be able to help me out with, i know this may sound stupid but this is my first american car im also in the uk and not alot of people know too much about american cars, im trying to find out what exhaust set up i have on my car or more importantly if i have a stock or aftermarket muffler, its a 89 trans am gta convertible 350 tpi that im restoring, it has 3 inch tailpipes the cat has also been removed i have attatched photos and video clips, the problem is i want this thing to be loud as hell, it sounds ok on idle and when you rev it but not so much when your driving, its a bit to quite on the road, so i was thinking about changing the muffler to a race one but i dont know if someone has already changed the muffler because its had the cat removed ect, also what is the loudest muffler on the market at the moment, any help or info would be much appreciated thanks.
It looks like it's probably a stock muffer or stock replacement that someone stuck aftermarket tips on the tailpipes.
If you just want loud you can just get rid of it. If you want to keep the dual tips then just have a shop weld up a piece to split the outlet into 2 and route it to where you want it. Without a cat it will be LOUD. (I used to run headers, dual high flow cats and then 3" straight pipes out the back on on one of my TransAm's, it was pretty loud, sounded good...)
