stainlessworks t56 fitment issues
Just checking to see if anyone else has had fitment issues with their stainless works and t56 conversions. I am in the process of installing a set and the fitment is terrible... On the left side I have the headers hitting both the frame rail and the A-arm frame mount, along with the collector barely missing the slave cylinder housing. On the right side, the hi-torque starter will not clear.
I think the heads are causing the mounting angle issues, and its sending the headers into the frame.

Where did you purchase them, and what motor mounts are you using?

Re: stainlessworks t56 fitment issues
Purchased through a local dealer as recommended by SW. My mounts are still the factory type and they are newer, I think I did them when I built the motor 3 years ago, and about 10,000miles.
Is there a mount available that will offset the engine higher by 1/2 to 3/4 inch?

Re: stainlessworks t56 fitment issues
I purchased mine through Hawk's and the Spohn motor mounts with new clamshells (new Prothane inserts). They were designed to be used together, but that was the entire system and Bruce has the rights to it - meaning, SW will not sell that system and will refer you to Hawks. Not sure if that means SW cannot sell the headers separately, or if they can't sell the headers designed with Spohn mounts. I have 2" primaries, and the header part of the system fits well.
Do some research before dinging the headers.

I'm sure, but don't know exactly. I have an LS2.

Re: stainlessworks t56 fitment issues
Well, I completed the install and had no choice but to ding the left side header in 3 places. Im not sure why this happened since I even replaced the motor mounts, it did end up just clearing the frame rail but I knew as soon as the mount started to sag, it would just start hitting again so I made a small ding to clear it nicely.
The dinging was very minimal, so I'm sure that the are no flow issues resulting from it.
Im not sure why I had fitment issues, could have been the headers that warped at the welding stage, my engine is somehow offset for some reason, or my AFR heads are milled at a different angle.
Either way, the work and frustration involved with the swamp are well worth the benefits since the car responded extremely well to the exhaust changes. Changes being the Stainless works headers, and 3inch Y pipe.

Re: stainlessworks t56 fitment issues
They were made specific for a t56 installation, so not sure why they didn't clear. You have to remember that these things just like to warp as soon as they come off the jig, well....mine were not happy coming off the jig I suppose, but it is something GC should have caught....unless of course the cause is on my end.
Can never find a used pair when you really need them!

My mistake you have the ls models. Mines regular small block. They fit no problems.
