Hey guys - I had my 1982 Trans Am repainted 20 years ago and the painter put 2 birds in the wrong spot. I removed one to see if it was possible to just buy a new one and put it where it belongs, but the outline of the decal is still there. The paint is acrylic enamel. Is it possible to buff or wet sand this out? What products are recommended for this?

Is the rest of the paint faded and that spot darker where the decal was.

No - the car is a garage queen. Its got a great shine on it. When you look at the spot where the decal was, there is an outline of the bird, and the paint seems to have a different texture where the decal was.

Is the paint raised or deeper under the bird? When you run your finger nail over it can u feel a difference?

Try using a high speed R O with an orange pad and some light polish, follow up with a wax. This should take it back to normal. If not the adhesive could have damaged the paint. Next step would be wetsand and 2 step polish.

I wouldn't worry to much there is usually an outline. Most of the time its just build up of wax and other stuff that you don't see until u take the decal off. Very easy to polish this stuff. Ive only seen very rare cases were the decal adhesive damaged the paint.
