Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

Hello,

This is for those with the aftermarket clear parking lamps.

I was wondering where you got your parking light assembly kit from? How much it was? Is it a direct replacement? Is it sealed or does it have "breathing" holes (which tends to allow water and moisture in for the factory ones).

Apparently they are all (that I can see) "DEPO" brand.

Thanks very much

i have the smoked front /sides. ive never had a moisture problem inside. im planning on getting the clear lenses and going with switchback leds for the front turn signals.

I do have to say that website 360tuners.com is COMPLETELY MISLEADING. Claiming those cheap "DEPO" (not depot) brand are worth $199.99 and you're saving $150.01 is just WRONG.. Depo are only worth around $49.99 EVERWHERE else.. Looks like they just make up a price to make you buy. That's like chevy saying the new ZL1 is going to worth $150,000 but they will sell it for $59,000 (if that is what it will sell for and every other dealer is selling it for around).

That is just wrong.

But anyways.. Basically it's plastic with a "chrome" plastic different internal than the stock? Is that correct?

and the clear plastic side marker lights are worth $89.. Interesting.. Considering the entire kit is only worth around $69.

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

These were well worth every penny in my opinion and really finished off the front of the car. I almost bought the crystal ones off eBay but finally decided against it.These are exact replicas of the original including what is called "opaque" lenses. They have the breather holes like the stock but have had no problems . Here's were I bought them and a photo of them just out of the box . ($85.00 is a little pricey, but as I said well worth it). Here's a link to "1a Auto"Where I bought them. who is also one of our sponsors here on ThirdGen.Org = http://www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/...08/271776/1989

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

I think I like the ones that the O.P. put up. I just like the lens better. Just my opinion though. Really, I think they both look good.

the OP is you(original poster) i personally like the clean stock replacments from 1a auto, the others look to fake. ive had some decent luck with sanding down stock lenses and polishing them back out.

The LED towers look like they would light up the housing better. I was on the fence about using LED's til I saw those. I found something else to use my tax return check on, now! Thanks for posting that Guys!
How soon are you going to do this loneroad?

I haven't installed the LEDs yet. I did test fit them when I first got the lights and housing. It is a very tight fit (the light just touches the edge of the opening) and needs a light tough to install.

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

I got those and when the front end is in direct sunlight you cannot tell the turn signal is on. And it didn't change even when I put the high count led bulbs in. I actually had to add two strips of amber leds into each one and now it's noticeable all the time.

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

Someone definately has to post a vid of them flashing. I was a little worried they would "Wash-out" in bright sunlight (Which is almost every day where I live)

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

When you install led's you need an electronic flasher. Without it (Using your stock flasher.) they will either flash very fast or not flash at all. They are pretty cheap and available at your local auto parts store.

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

as far as the moisture problem... there was a recall many years ago, and they would cut a notch in the bumper underneath the breather hole in the parking lights.... on later cars (91/92) i believe it was addressed from the factory, water would puddle up underneath the breather hole and get up into the light

i have the crystal clear parking lights now with LED's

best pic i have of them lit up... they're not that blue in person tho

Re: Questions - Those with Aftermarket Clear Parking Lamps

For you guys who wanna be cheap, you can always polish up your factory lights:

Name: 100_9957.jpg
Views: 856
Size: 56.0 KB

The discoloration at the top is actually mold INSIDE my parking lights. It's upside down here, apparently water pooled inside it somehow - and it's a 92 car too, so whatever the factory fix was, it wasnt that effective.

How they originally looked:
Name: 100_4019.jpg
Views: 788
Size: 94.9 KB

I should probably get some of those DEPO lights though, they'd match my headlights a lot better. That said, I was expecting them to fade out and re-oxidize, but that was over a year ago and they look just as good now as they did then.
